First UK Edition first impression in first issue dustwrapper priced 8s net to the inside flap. pp.275. Publisher's pale blue cloth with black titles to spine. Boards bright and clean. No inscriptions. Clean interior. Spine tips lightly pushed and the merest hint of offsetting to both sets of end-papers. Overall a near fine copy. The rare dustwrapper is near VG with loss at the spine ends just affecting the lettering with a slither of loss to the bottom edge of the front panel and with a chip to the left-hand corner of the back panel affecting the blurb. The spine of the dustwrapper is mildly faded but with the lettering still clear. Two short stories: 'The Lock at Charenton' and 'Maigret Returns'. A scarce wartime Maigret first edition. Covers bright and fresh but for area of darkening at foot of spine. Fragile jacket with some chips and losses to edges. Remains presentable. Two short stories featuring Inspector Jules Maigret; 'The Lock at Charenton' and 'Maigret Returns'.
