Le premier roman populaire de Georges Simenon publié sous pseudonyme et une couverture illustrée en couleur par Georges Vallée. Premier tirage première couverture pas de grands papiers. . S'il publie en souscription son premier roman Au pont des Arches en 1921 le premier roman « populaire » de Simenon est ce Roman d'une dactylo publié sous un pseudonyme : celui de Jean du Perry - un nom emprunté à une artère liégeoise la rue du Péry. Simenon se flatte de l'avoir écrit en une longue matinée à la terrasse du café parisien « Le Rêve » rue Caulaincourt tandis que sa femme 'Tigy' épousée en 1922 exposait juste en face à la « Foire aux croûtes » de Montmartre place Constantin-Pecqueur. Cette foire inventée en avril 1921 par Jules Depaquit premier maire de la commune libre de Montmartre dessinateur et illustrateur de journaux humoristiques était d'abord un canular mais elle attira tant de monde qu'elle allait bientôt être suivie d'une deuxième édition le 5 juin de la même année. Devant ce succès on la réitéra tous les trois mois. Par la suite elle se tint à cet endroit jusqu'à six ou sept fois par an. Pour celle de juin 1928 le peintre Jean Hélion voisin de » stand » de Régine Simenon raconta dans ses Souvenirs comment Simenon venait de temps en temps défendre avec une « belle verve » devant les passants les oeuvres de son épouse entre deux paragraphe de son livre. Le manuscrit fut remis quelques jours plus tard le 30 juin à son éditeur. Le Roman d'une dactylo met en scène Jean Sovrinos qui réapparaîtra quatre ans plus tard dans un autre roman populaire Brin d'amour publié cette fois sous un autre pseudonyme celui de Georges-Martin-Georges. Jusqu'en 1930 Simenon publia contes nouvelles et romans chez différents éditeurs et dans diverses revues avant de réellement se lancer dans les romans policiers et les premiers Maigret. Cette première nouvelle sous ce premier pseudonyme sera suivi en octobre d'Amour exilée. Cette période passionnante de l'oeuvre de Simenon a été récemment mise en cases par Jacques de Loustal dans L'Ostrogoth aux éditions Dargaud. Menguy Bibliographie Simenon 291-1. Paris, J.
