br. Un misterioso collezionista di libri nel 1940 offrì a Henry Miller cento dollari al mese per scrivere dei racconti erotici. Miller cominciò entusiasta, ma si stancò presto e passò l'incarico all'amica Anaïs Nin che aveva bisogno di soldi. "Cominciai a scrivere ironicamente, divenendo così improbabile, bizzarra ed esagerata che pensai che il vecchio si sarebbe accorto che stavo facendo una caricatura della sessualità," ricorda Anaïs Nin. "Passavo i giorni in biblioteca a studiare il Kama Sutra, ascoltavo le avventure più spinte degli amici... Tutte le mattine, dopo colazione, mi sedevo a scrivere la mia dose di pornografia..." Solo ogni tanto riceveva una telefonata dal mandante. Una voce diceva: "Va bene. Ma lasci perdere la poesia e le descrizioni di tutto quello che non è sesso. Si concentri sul sesso." Nacquero così questi racconti che si possono meritatamente annoverare tra le opere della letteratura erotica di maggior successo.

Clanmer Byng. "The anxieties and stresses of the restless human soul are the central topic of the epic poem Leyli and Majnun - the third of the Khamsa epics, which Nizami wrote in 1188.". Leili and Majnun is a narrative poem composed in 584/1188 by the Persian poet Ne?ami Ganjavi based on a semi-historical Arab story about the 7th century Bedouin poet Qays ibn Al-Mulawwah and his ladylove Layla bint Mahdi (or Layla al-Aamiriya). Nizami also wrote Khosrow and Shirin in the 12th century, a popular poem praising their love story. t is the third of his five long narrative poems, Panj Ganj (The Five Treasures). Lord Byron called it "the Romeo and Juliet of the East.

Wilson, B.A. "The fourth of Niami's treasures, The Seven Beauties (1196) has its own special place in the poet's output, due to itss unusual structure, and its social and psychological approach.". Charles Edward Wilson, (1858-1941) began the study of Persian in early youth. First assisted by Jules Mohl, and afterwards by N. de KhanikofF, S. Guyard, and Professor Palmer. From natives of Persia acquired a thorough knowledge of the colloquial. The seven beauties also known as Bahramnameh (The Book of Bahram, referring to the Sasanian king Bahram Gur) is a romantic epic by Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi written in 1197. This poem is a part of the Nizami's Khamsa. The original title in Persian Haft Peykar can be translated literally as "seven portraits" with the figurative meaning of "seven beauties". Both translations are meaningful and the poet doubtless exploited intentionally the ambiguity of the words. The poem was dedicated to the Ahmadili ruler of Maragha, Ala-al-Din Korpe Arslan bin Aq-Sonqor. The poem is a masterpiece of erotic literature, but it is also a profoundly moralistic work.

"The central narrative of the poem concerns seven beauties, from different countries of the known world, who come to take up residence at seven pleasure-palaces built by Shah Bahram.". The story of the seven princesses, the most important part of the 'Haft Paykar' (The seven beauties) by the Azerbaijani poet Nizami (1141-1202) a precious jewel of oriental narrative art, to be compared only with the most beautiful stories out of Thousand and one Nights. On the seven days of one week each tale being of the same magical beauty as the miniatures which illustrate the book. Each of the princesses comes from a different countries, each has been born under a different star and lives in a different coloured pavilion of the Royal Palace. The symbolic meaning of their stars and of the colours of their pavilions is artfully interwoven with their stories which are meaningfully connected with each other. "The story of unfulfilled love" for instance, which the Indian Princess tells to the King, all dressed in black in the black pavilion of Saturnus, is a tragic one revealing all happiness to be nothing but an illusion; while 'the story of the tribulation of the lovers' vividly told by the Friday-Princess in the white pavilion of Venus, reminds ud of the gay sensuality of tales by Boccacio and Balzac. In spite of the world-wide fame of Nizami's epos, so far no translation has been published which allows the English reader to enjoy and appreciate the poetic beauty of the incomparable work.
