‎The Book titled "Discrimination Against Girl Child: The Trajectory of Missing Girls" deals with the topic of son preference and female foeticide in India and highlights the unfavourable child Sex ratio and the phenomenon of feminisation of the old and masculinisation of the young in the state of Kerala. The book has three sections-first part is the real life story of a woman leader, on how she has risen up the ladder of success from the status of a doormat. Second part details the research on Missing Girls in Kerala for which son preference and the subsequent female foeticide are pointed out as A Few among the major causative factors. In the last part on 'Enhancing the Status and Dignity of Girl Child', almost all querries that spring up in the seminars and workshops aimed at women Empowerment are dealt with appropriate clarification. The life story of 'Vanitha' reveals how a postgraduate degree with a high first class and a huge package of dowry failed to contribute anything in enhancing the dignity of a Keralite girl, especially in her husband's home. In the last chapter, Vanitha's example itself is depicted to highlight how economic independence along with a strong determination would enable a woman to rise up from the status of a doormat to that of a woman leader living a life with dignity, so as to provide a motivation to every woman in distress. The Book is hoped to spark the rethinking of both men and women and facilitate social change for a better. About The Author:- Moly Kuruvilla is a Reader in the Centre for Women's Studies, University of Calicut. Ever since the inception of the Centre at the University, she is also the Director in charge of the Centre. Moly Kuruvilla is a member of the UGC National Consultative Committee for Capacity Building of Women Managers in Higher Education. She has triple Post graduation M .Sc in Zoology, M .Ed in Education and M. Phil, in Women's Studies. Her Ph. D. is from the Department of Education, University of Calicut on the topic of Maternal Employment and Adolescent Achievement, done at a time when the topic of mothers going out to work was a controversial issue. Moly Kuruvilla has published twenty two papers on various women issues. She has also completed two research projects in the area - one on the Behaviour Problems of Preschool Children and the Measures Adopted by Mothers and the other on Son Preference in Kerala. ‎Mary Wortley Montagu (1689-1762), née Lady Mary Pierrepont, femme de lettres, fut l'épouse d'Edward Wortley Montagu, membre du Parlement britannique, ambassadeur à Constantinople en 1717-1718. A cette occasion, elle vécut dans l'empire ottoman, à Edirne/Andrinople et à Istanbul/Constantinople pendant 18 mois. D'après ses lettres, elle était aidée d'une interprète d'origine grecque, avant d'apprendre la langue turque et de s'entretenir avec ses interlocutrices dans leur langue maternelle. Lady Montagu découvrit en Turquie l'inoculation contre la variole, et en fit la promotion en Angleterre, plusieurs années avant que ne soit découverte la vaccination.Le récit du voyage et de ce séjour parut sous forme de lettres (Letters of ... Lady M--y W---y M----e) qui furent publiées, après sa mort, d'abord anonymement ; elles connurent un grand succès et furent très rapidement traduites et souvent rééditées par la suite. En France, on compte encore, entre 1950 et 2018, cinq éditions et parfois traductions différentes, souvent accompagnées de préfaces et de notes. On lit souvent que ce témoignage fut précieux pour la connaissance de la société ottomane des villes, puisqu'il donnait le point de vue d'une femme qui avait accès au monde féminin, jusqu'alors invisible pour les voyageurs masculins. Certains passages sont célèbres comme celui décrivant le hammam, objet de bien des fantasmes en Occident, ou ceux concernant l'Islam qui explique le titre des traductions françaises modernes : "l'Islam au péril des femmes" et "l'Islam au coeur".
