‎85 x 68 mm, contre-email en fondant blanc constellé de vert turquoise présentant l'inscription manuscrite sur couverte : "Procédé Lafon de Camarsac / [18]64 / Nadar & Cie / 35 Boult des Capucines / 2040", encadrement de velours rouge ancien (131 x 99 mm). La baronne alors âgée de 73 ans, dans l'année même de son décés, vraisemblablement assise dans un fauteuil, pose lascivement, engoncée dans une robe de soie à corset, couverte d'un lourd manteau doublé de fourrure, tête posée sur sa main gauche et regard porté vers l'objectif. « Le mérite des portraits de M. Nadar ne consiste pas seulement dans l'habileté de la pose, qui est tout artistique, il y a là une disposition savante et raisonnée de la lumière, qui atténue ou augmente le jour selon le caractère de la tête et l'instinct de l'opérateur. Nous retrouvons de plus dans le tirage des épreuves une recherche délicate de l'harmonie et des tons légèrement estompés qui adoucissent de leur pénombre les arêtes des contours. » (Henri Tournier, 1859). Le procédé de Lafon de Camarsac consisterait en un positif issu d'un collodion sur plaque de verre que l'on transférait sur une plaque émaillée pour être passée au feu de moufle (petit feu) puis mise en couverte (?) donnant une image devenue inaltérable. Après 1864 et la stabilisation du procédé au charbon de Poitevin, Lafon de Camarsac l'aurait intégré. Une évolution de son procédé introduisit la couleur par l'utilisation de pigments céramiques. Répondant au souci d'intégration de l'image photographique aux arts du feu (céramique, émail, verrerie), en carreaux, en médaillons, l'émail photographique se prêtaient à de multiples usages : portraits miniatures, médaillons, bibelots divers. C'est l'art funéraire qui y a eu le plus massivement recours, avec les portraits de défunts intégrés aux pierres tombales, en particulier dans les pays méditerranéens. La BnF présenterait dans ses collections un peu moins d'une trentaine d'émaux photographiques dont trois de Lafon de Camarsac et huit de Nadar ou de son atelier. Aucun de ces derniers n'est désigné comme d'après le procédé de Lafon de Camarsac. Nadar utilise par contre à plusieurs reprises le « procédé Deroche ». Mathieu-Deroche, son voisin au 39 bd des Capucines, avait obtenu une licence pour utiliser la méthode de Poitevin, l'autre spécialiste de la photographie sur émail, et s'était formé chez Lafon de Camarsac. Malgré nos recherches, nous n'avons pu localiser d'autres émaux selon le procédé Lafont de Camarsac issus de chez Nadar. Blanche-Cécile-Alexandrine-Géraldine van Tengnagell (1791-1864), épousa en 1910 le baron Louis Regnault (1770-1839), intendant des armées du roi de France. Pierre Michel Marie Alcide Lafon de Camarsac (1821-1905) est l'inventeur des émaux photographiques, procédé photographique pour lequel il déposa un brevet en 1854; il obtint la médaille d'or à l'Exposition universelle de 1867. Le rapport de ladite exposition précise qu'à cette date Lafon de Camarsac avait livré plus de 15000 émaux ! (Exposition universelle de Paris en 1867: documents et rapports, Volume 1, p. 428).
