Other captions include names of doctors instructors fellow students and the type of work being done in images such as "Bev - vaccine" and "Beth Bueliner - Blood Bank". Other photos identify the subject as the Media Lab Chemistry Lab working with EKG and studying Hematology blood. Students outside of medical school entrance. Photos of a quick break grabbing a coffee and snack of animal crackers.

Although women had participated in the informal practice of medicine for hundreds of years there were relatively few women studying medicine in the United States at this time. By 1900 only about a dozen medical schools had opened to coeducation and female graduates often found themselves unable to access training hospitals and professional associations. The trailblazing young women in these photos whom we see performing experiments and examining patients bucked the trend of their generation to become doctors. Early images of women in medicine are very rare and a fine addition to a collection. Very good condition. unknown books

MEHMED ZIHNI EFENDI, (1845-1913).
Mesâhirü'n-nisâ. Vol. 1.
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Contemporary 1/4 black leather bdg. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In Ottoman script. 371 p. Mesâhirü'n-nisâ. Vol. 1. Biographies of women from Islamic and Turkish world. "Mesahiru'n Nisa" Mehmed Zihni Efendi's is one of the most important works in the tradition of Islamic historiography. Within this tradition, a partial examination has been carried out on books written on social classes to determine on how much emphasis has been given on the "type and number" of women. The most important difference that separates "Mesahiru'n-Nisa" from previous traditional books on social classes is the reason it was written. The author wrote his work at the request of "Maarif Nezareti" ( Ministry of Education) to be read to young girl students at "Darulmuallimat" at that time. Zihni Efendi portrayed a "model Muslim woman profile" in his study. Within this framework, the author tried to realize three aims: Women who have become noted in different artistic, social, scientific and occupational areas not because of their gender but because they provide as an example with what they have done to young girl students. On the other hand, the moral side of a woman was given importance and very many moral women introduced in their various aspects were given as an example of their eminent personalities. In particular, emphasis was given on being a "good wife" and a "good mother.". (Source: Sükriye Akgül: The Mesahiru'n-Nisa (Successful Women) Tradition in Islamic Historiography and the Examination of Mehmed Zihni Efendi's Work on Mesahiru'n Nisa). First Edition. Vol. 1 of 2. Lucy Stone is in the doghouse with her next-door neighbor Mrs. Prudence Pratt. It seems that Kudo the Stones misbehaving mutt has developed a taste for Mrs. Pratts blue-ribbon winning chickens as well an escape artists talent for sneaking out. With the Fourth of July coming up Lucy doesnt want to set off any more fireworks with the crabby Prudence.Another sign that the crazy days of summer are in full swing arrives when a group of naturistsa.k.a. nudistsdescends on Tinkers Cove skinny-dipping at the pond that borders Mrs. Pratts property giving her something else to complain about. Worse still the local lobstermen are upset about poachers and suspicion falls on Mrs. Pratts husband and son. Then the July Fourth fireworks are canceled to protect a patch of extremely rare purple-spotted lichen and Mrs Pratt is the victim of a hit and run.Tinker's Cove is full of suspects but none with so personal a motive as the Stones. Their feud with Mrs. Pratt has put them at risk of losing their freedom this Independence Dayunless Lucy can start things off with a bang by catching a killer
