Service for the Dead
New York: Arbor House. Near Fine in Fine dust jacket. 1986. First Edition. Hardcover. 0877958122 . Very slight shelfwear. A bright tight attractive copy. <p> "On his way home from Vietnam after having been wounded and newly immersed in a civilian reality that seems trivial Marine Pfc. Mike Allison tries to make sense of his Vietnam nightmare. In the back seat of his parents' car he drifts in and out of memories of the war: the terror of random death; endless patrols; the booby-trapped landscape; seemingly friendly Vietnamese who harbor Viet Cong; memories. . . dreams. . . nightmares. Mike and the men in his platoon make dream and reality interchangeable as the only way to make sense of the senseless cryptic war. . . But this fragile accommodation to the war is shattered by a new platoon leader leading to one of the most powerful and moving scenes in the literature of war. In a conclusion that will haunt readers long after the book is laid down Mike is forced to confront himself and what it means to be a soldier."; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall . Arbor House hardcover

THE ROMANCE OF AIR-FIGHTING.
31p. 12mo. Original full printed wraps. Remains of album mountings on rear wrap. Nice copy. Contents of this scarce World War One piece include such sections and statements as: The Pilot's Training; War Flying; Duelists of the Air; Miscellaneous Duties; Deeds of Heroism; The Finest Air Story of the War; A Chance for the Americans "Now that thousands of Americans have enlisted in the Flying Corps, and other thousands are debating in their minds whether or not to follow their example. "The flying men will win the War. The historians of the Great War may conceivably tell us that the final rout of the Central Empires was brought about when ten thousand American airmen and ten thousand American aeroplanes arrived in Europe to destroy the enemy communications and cut off the German trench-dwellers from all their sources of supply. Is this possible? It is assuredly not impossible, and that is why the time has now come when American citizens are realising that fighting the Prussians in the air is one of the noblest enterprises permitted to the youth of the present day." Andrault de Langeron Louis-A.
La battaglia di Austerlitz
br.

Autori: Andrea Santangelo.
