Het boek kreeg lovende pers, werd aanbevolen lectuur in het middelbaar onderwijs en kreeg een herdruk in 1981. Alwin Keyman maakte naar "Het gebroken uur" een toneelstuk dat in Anterpen in Theater Leguit en in De Singel speelde.Het gebroken uur geraakte nadien toch in de vergetelheid. Het label van jeugdliteratuur was weinig hoog gegrepen voor deze historisch interessante memoires. Bovendien wist men in die tijd nauwelijks iets over de Jodenvervolgingen in Antwerpen in 1940-1944, het verhaal stond dus geisoleerd.De voorbije jaren verschenen publicaties die toelaten het verhaal van Sonia Blumenstein beter te plaatsen, en die een goed onderbouwde heruitgave van dit boek mogelijk maken.De editie werd toevertrouwd aan herman Van Goethem, hooglereaar geschiedenis aan de Universiteit Antwerpen. Als jurist en historicus is hij een eminent kenner van de bestuurlijke collaboratie in Belgie tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

Blunden's classic memoir was first published in 1928. A good, sound copy of the first modern edition of one of the two greatest personal memoirs of the Western Front in WWI (the other being Sassoon's 'Memoirs of an Infantry Officer'). Falls, p.182 'probably the only single book of its kind we have had in English which really reaches the stature of its subject...An almost perfect picture of the small events which make up the siege warfare of France and Flanders'. br. Il 25 aprile del 1945 l'Italia è libera. Un lungo istante in cui si mescolano gioie private ed euforia collettiva. La fine di una guerra durissima e di una dittatura feroce che aveva devastato il paese. Si tratta però anche di un nuovo inizio, quello di una nazione per la prima volta davvero democratica, le cui radici sarebbero dovute affondare nella straordinaria esperienza della Resistenza e invece sembrano immediatamente allontanarsene. Norberto Bobbio se ne rende conto prima di chiunque altro e, evitando qualunque retorica imbalsamante, pone subito l'accento, nei suoi interventi, sul valore della Resistenza come momento imperfetto, che può e deve cercare la sua compiutezza nella democrazia e attraverso la Costituzione. In questo volume, una raccolta di scritti dal 1945 al 1995, in larga parte inediti, ritroviamo tutta l'acutezza e la lucidità del costante riflettere di Bobbio intorno alla memoria critica di uno dei momenti fondanti della nostra democrazia. La testimonianza del suo impegno in difesa della Resistenza come ideale vivo, che non si realizza mai interamente ma continua ad alimentare speranze, ansie ed energie di rinnovamento.
