Group of Ten Photographs Documenting Training of the 13th Cavalry Regiment During the Border War
San Antonio 1916. Near Fine. Ten original photographs plus two real photo postcards. Most 3 x 5 inches one smaller. Occasional very minor wear. Images generally crisp and clean. A collection of ten photographs that depict activities of F Troop of the 13th U.S. Cavalry Regiment on the border with Mexico in the vicinity of Columbus New Mexico during the mid-1910s. The regiment was assigned to the Army's El Paso border patrol in 1912 and eventually became headquartered in Columbus. In New Mexico the unit's patrol area consisted of approximately sixty-five miles between Noria and Hermanas; F Troop was stationed in the field near the tiny town of Hachita. The regiment played a key role in defending against Pancho Villa's 1916 raid on Columbus and took part in Pershing's Punitive Expedition which served as retaliation for the attack. The images here show members of the troop in training heading out on patrol in their field camp at attention during inspection and horsing around. The versos of most photographs are stamped "Fox Tone Print Fox Co. San Antonio." Also present are two photo postcards showing I Troop of the 2nd U.S. Cavalry which was also briefly stationed at El Paso. A nice group. unknown books

br. Questo diario di Junio Valerio Borghese fa perno su due momenti. Il primo inquadra quella che rimase sempre una divergenza acuta e di fondo tra Mussolini e Borghese. Il duce vedeva nel comandante della Decima una seria concorrenza alla sua persona, in particolare riguardo al fascino e alla "presa sulle masse e sul partito". In secondo luogo, il principe romano si difende con calore dall'accusa che lui e i suoi uomini siano stati dei criminali di guerra al soldo dei nazisti. La Decima, secondo Borghese, è stata di fatto costretta ad inserirsi in una guerra civile dalla quale avrebbe dovuto restare fuori.

Attraverso una documentazione assolutamente inedita e la testimonianza di Lamberto Caenazzo, all'epoca giovanissimo partigiano del popolare quartiere milanese del Giambellino, Luigi Borgomaneri ricostruisce la figura e le imprese, a tutt'oggi dimenticate e incredibili se non fossero documentate, di Carlo Travaglini, un maturo intellettuale di origine tedesca che, espulso dalla Germania negli anni Trenta dopo essere stato rinchiuso in un lager, nella Milano occupata dai nazisti si beffa per mesi di Wehrmacht e Gestapo, alternando a spericolate azioni il salvataggio dalla deportazione di centinaia tra operai, ebrei e ex prigionieri di guerra alleati, finché, scoperto, continua la sua lotta contro il nazifascismo in una formazione partigiana nel Lecchese. Una biografia, quella di Travaglini, che nella sua unicità e nel suo divenire partigiano offre a Borgomaneri materia per ritornare sul tema della "scelta" al di fuori di schemi e rimandi ideologici o di partito, ragionando al contempo sulla necessità inderogabile di sottrarre la storia della resistenza a censure, a enfatizzazioni e soprattutto all'"oleografia a tutto tondo della madre di tutti i revisionismi, quella delle ricostruzioni a posteriori di partito e ufficiali.
