Imperial Rescript of the Declaration of War on the United States and Great Britain. Dated December 8th 1941 but later printed for Military Academy Use circa 1942-1944
Light rubbing to cloth boards and slipcase text lightly browned. Lithographic document in Japaneseaccordion form 14 x 4 inches 350 x 105 mm. The formal announcement of a state of war delivered to the Japanese people comprising title panel and 8 pages. Purple boards upper cover with Imperial chrysanthemum device and titled edges lightly rubbed; matching original blue/green card slipcase. Laid-in: mimeograph translation in English presumed contemporary. The document provides Japan's reasons for declaring war in December 1941 stating Japan's position in Asia as a supporter of peace accusing the United States and Great Britain of aiding Nationalist groups in China. This is a contemporary reissue of the declaration for use in military academies. The Declaration of War was generally republished on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor throughout the War to reinforce to the people the Japanese Right for the war. unknown

The original non-price clipped dustjacket is worn to the edges particularly to the top of the spine with several very small closed tears. The war diary of the renowned artist Edward Ardizzone from July 1943 to May 1945. Ardizzone 1900 - 1979 was appointed as an official war artist. The diary recounts his experiences in Sicily Italy Egypt Algiers Normandy Denmark and Germany lavishly illustrated with black and white sketches in his distinctive style. The painting on the wraparound dustjacket is "Naval Control Post on the Beaches of Normandy 1944". 1st Edition. Boards in d.j. Bodley Head hardcover

Second printing of the second consolidated edition. Title stamped in black on cover and spine. Slight browning to edges. Book is clean unmarked and square with a strong binding. Paper dustjacket mustard has an enclosed tear on the back cover sunned spine and shows minor general wear. Overall a very functional copy. Her Majesty's Stationery Office unknown

Uncommon unit history. 195 pages. The 2/28th was raised in Perth in 1940 and deployed to the middle east to complete training. In early 1941 the formed part of the 9th Division that confronted the advance of the German army in North Africa at Tobruk. Evacuated to Palestine in September 1941 but redeployed to North Africa Tobruk again in July 1942. After success in North Africa the 2/28th retrained and engaged the Japanese in New Guinea Lae during 1945. The unit was disbanded in 1946. . Very Good. 1st Edition.
