Radio Fundamentals; War Department Technical Manual TM 11-455
Washington DC: United States Government Printing Office 1944. Revised Edition. This supersedes TM 11-455 17 July 1941. Wraps. Good. iii 1 336 4 pages. Wraps. Review Questions. Illustrations. Tables. Appendices. Glossary of Radio Terms. RMA Radio Color Codes. Bibliography. Index. Corners of some pages bent covers soiled & worn small tears at spine. This represents the state of knowledge state of practice and standard of training during the final months of the Second World War. It incorporated lessons learned and new technical developments since the issuance of the previous edition in mid-1941. Military manuals are several series of official publications intended to be instructive and informative. They were produced by all the branches of service but are generally called Army manuals. Using a phrase which appeared in many they were "published for the information and guidance of all concerned." During the 1940s military manuals were approved by the Chief of Staff and authenticated by the Adjutant General. Field Manual FM 21-6 List and Index of War Department Publications is a detailed list of the manuals that were available. The War Department which became the Department of the Army in 1947 issued three major classes of publications -- administrative doctrinal training and organizational and technical and equipment publications. Administrative publications include publications such as Army Regulations Special Regulations Bulletins Circulars General and Special Orders and Pamphlets; doctrinal training and organizational publications contain Field Manuals Army Training and Evaluation Programs Training Circulars Tables of Organization and Equipment and Tables of Allowances; and technical and equipment publications include publications such as Technical Manuals Technical Bulletins Supply Manuals etc. The Library of Congress does not have a complete set of these publications but its holdings are extensive and significant. United States Army Field Manuals are published by the United States Army's Army Publishing Directorate. As of 27 July 2007 some 542 field manuals were in use. They contain detailed information and how-tos for procedures important to soldiers serving in the field. Starting in 2010 the US Army began review and revision of all of its doctrinal publications under the initiative "Doctrine 2015". Since then the most important doctrine have been published in Army Doctrine Publications ADP and Army Doctrine Reference Publications ADRP replacing the former key Field Manuals. Army Techniques Publications ATP Army Training Circulars TC and Army Technical Manuals TM round out the suite new of doctrinal publications. Not all FMs are being rescinded. Select Field Manuals will continue to be published periodically reviewed and revised. Army manuals include publications on historic U. S. military vehicles including military motorcycles jeeps military trucks scout cars tanks and amphibians; aircraft including fixed wing and rotary craft; radio equipment; cooking; and language dictionaries and phrase books. The purpose of this work by the Historical Section of the Army War College was to present the essential facts of the participation of the land forces of the United States in the World War. It deals with the command composition and operations of large units. This volume contains outline histories of the divisions with served in Europe during the war. Original sources the majority of which are official papers of the War Department for the basis. The command lists were compiled for this publication by the Adjutant General. The front lines of the divisions during battle are based primarily on a series of specials studies by the American Battle Monuments Commission and an analysis by the Historical Section of the original material on file in the War Department. Units smaller than a regiment are not shown unless they were engaged in combat. Credit for participation in an operation is given a division from the time it entered corps reserve provided the operation was in progress or when it assumed command of a front without passing through corps reserve. The contents are presented as: Preface Regular Army Divisions National Guard Divisions National Army Divisions Composition of Divisions Tables of Organization of Divisions Calendar and Abbreviations.
