Company E and also the 355th Infantry was composed primarily of men from Nebraska. The 355th Infantry Regiment was part of the 89th Division formed in August 1917 upon U.S. entry in World War I. After training at Camp Funston Kansas the Division arrived in France during June 1918 and saw action during the St. Mihiel and Argonne offensives. After the Armistice the Regiment saw occupation duty in Germany. No marks in book binding tight. Covers show very light soiling. Book condition VG. Uncommon World War I unit history. An especially interesting issue because of its publication immediately after the start of World War II. Contains an article "The German Campaign in Poland" by Lt. Col. von Wedel of the Wehrmacht that presents a German viewpoint. The article is accompanied by many photographs and battle maps. Numerous other articles and features including photographs of a tin pot-hatted American soldier adopting various "anti-aircraft" positions in order to fire Springfield rifles at attacking aircraft! London: John Murray 1917. HB. Originally published in colored stiff paper wraps this copy has been rebound on full brown leather gilt lettering with 5 raised bands on spine and a diagonal strip of blue cloth on the upper front cover. The cloth strip is 1.5" wide with dark blue edges and light blue center with a red line in the center. All edges of text block gilt. The original colorful front cover has been bound in. Signed on the ffep by Frank Messervy and inscribed "in memory of Ernest who was shot down in a fight over the German lines with Richthofen's Circus-1917. RIP." Probably referring to Captain Ernest Dyce Messervy member of 56th Squadron RFC killed July 20 1917. Both Ernest and Frank Messervy were members of the same Eton class prior to World War I. General Sir Frank Walter Messervy 1893-1974 was a British Indian Army Officer who saw action in France and the Middle East during World War I. During World War II he commanded the Indian 5th Infantry Division in the East African Campaign and commanded 4th Indian Division during the Battleaxe and Crusader operations as part of the Eighth Army. Transferred to India Messervy eventually was appointed to command IV Corps in it's drive to Rangoon in Burma. Old bookseller stamp bottom of rear paste-down only mark in book binding tight. 136 pagina's met foto's.Het zionisme de beweging binnen het Joodse volk die streeft naar een Joods Nationaal Tehuis in Palestina groeide in aanhang gedurende de jaren ’30 van de twintigste eeuw. Omdat enerzijds landbouwers en vaklieden in Palestina hard nodig waren en anderzijds het zionisme zich ten doel stelde het joodse volk om te vormen tot een volk van niet uitsluitend handelaars en intellectuelen maar ook van boeren en ambachtslieden kwamen in heel Europa verenigingen voor Palestina-pioniers op die de omscholing verzorgden. In 1939 vestigde zich ook aan de Rading in Loosdrecht een groep Duitssprekende Joodse jongeren. Ze stonden bekend als de jeugdalijah en werkten bij boeren en ambachtslieden in de omgeving om het vak te leren. In de oorlog ontstond onder leiding van Joop Westerweel een verzetsgroep van zowel joodse als niet-joodse mensen die zich ervoor inzetten de jongeren te redden van de jodenvervolging. In deze bundel worden de leden van de jeugdalijah op persoonlijke wijze beschreven. De verhalen van hun levens en lotgevallen vormen samen met de vele illustraties een levendige herinnering aan deze bijzondere groep jonge mensen. Verloren hardcover

Over There. A Story Of Two Years And Two Months In The Trenches
c. 1918. Wraps. Tan stapled stiff paper wraps red and black lettering with illustration of soldier on front cover 12mo 16 pp. No publisher or place indicated but copyright by Roy K. Lawrence possibly a journalist and labor activist from Flint Michigan. This is likely a fictional account of the experiences of Harry Limbert of Detroit. In 1916 he volunteered to serve in Canadian forces during World War I. Limbert served with the Canadian Royal Engineers at Vimy Ridge where he was wounded. After time in an English hospital he returned to France but was later returned to Canada suffering from shell shock. In the summer of 1918 he was discharged from the Canadian Army so he could return to Detroit and join the American Army. No marks in book binding tight. Covers show light soiling. Scarce World War I item. OCLC lists no copies. paperback

Covers are clean and bright with very light fading top 1/4" of spine. Dust jacket shows some chipping the largest is 1"x1/2" at bottom front panel. No lettering is affected.
