Scarce unit history of this World War I Artillery battalion. The 76th Field Artillery was Attached to the Third Infantry Division. Formed in 1917 and trained at Camp Shelby Mississippi the 76th Field Artillery arrived at Brest on May 5 1918. After action at Chateau-Thierry it was the first artillery across the Marne was stationed at Bois De La Riene and on November 6 was the first artillery to cross the Meuse. It later served in the occupation where this book was printed. This history contains a complete list of all members a list of members recommended for the Distinguished Service Cross and Distinguished Service Medal compiled by the commanding officer Colonel E. St. J. Greble Jr. including the detailed actions of those recommended. Also a brief history of the 76th in World War I. No marks in book binding tight. Company E and also the 355th Infantry was composed primarily of men from Nebraska. The 355th Infantry Regiment was part of the 89th Division formed in August 1917 upon U.S. entry in World War I. After training at Camp Funston Kansas the Division arrived in France during June 1918 and saw action during the St. Mihiel and Argonne offensives. Includes a separate supplementary Roster of Infantry Officers with home stations as of November 1 1939. An especially interesting issue because of its publication immediately after the start of World War II. Contains an article "The German Campaign in Poland" by Lt. Col. von Wedel of the Wehrmacht that presents a German viewpoint. The article is accompanied by many photographs and battle maps. Numerous other articles and features including photographs of a tin pot-hatted American soldier adopting various "anti-aircraft" positions in order to fire Springfield rifles at attacking aircraft!
