The extraordinary situation whereby there was no British overall commander, each British formation coming under a separate French command, the fantastic but nonetheless seriously considered idea of the Breton Redoubt, and the loss of a vast and, at that time, irreplaceable quantity of stores are among the most pertinent issues which Major Karslake describes and discusses." - from dust jacket.
