RINALDO MARMARA, BÜLENT GÜNAL.
Gallipoli, 1915, in the light of the Vatican's secret archive documents: Frank Coffee Case.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English. 267 p., ills. th a focus on the humanitarian side of the Battle of Gallipoli. Journalist Bülent Günal compiled from 100 Vatican documents, focuses on the story of young ANZAC lieutenant and underscores the favorable attitude of the Turks for their enemies at the time of the Battle of Gallipoli. The book with a focus on the humanitarian side of the Battle of Gallipoli. Published by Kültür AS to mark the centenary of World War I, the book was inspired by the true story of a young ANZAC lieutenant and was written after secret Vatican documents were released thanks to the efforts of Rinaldo Marmara, the press secretary of Turkey's Catholic Bishops Conference and Cultural Attaché, who worked to uncover for them for three years. The book opens with historical documents that feature the correspondences between the Vatican, which was closely following the war, and its Istanbul representative, Monsieur Dolci. It then picks up momentum by featuring the family's letters to Pope Benedict XV that pleaded with him to find where lost soldiers were buried. Amid the chaos of war, Ottoman War Minister Enver Pasha paid particular attention to graves and ordered the generals to respect them, and even directly told soldiers to take care of them. Upon the request of English, French and Austrian families, the graves of dead soldiers were searched for.

FEROZ AHMAD.
From empire to republic. Essays on the late Ottoman Empire and Modern Turkey. 2 volumes set.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English . 2 volumes set ([xi], [1], 292 p.; [xi], [1], 348 p.). From empire to republic. Essays on the late Ottoman Empire and Modern Turkey. 2 volumes set. Covers' pictures; Vol. 1. The Manakis Brothers, Officers of the 3rd light infantry batallion - on the papers; long live liberty. Vol. 2. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk with women from Ankara during the opening of the Gazi Orman Çiftligi on 7 June 1925, following the announcement of the hat reforms. "In these two volumes, Feroz Ahmad focuses on a crucial period of Turkish modernisation; from Young Turks to Turkish Republic and the relationship between the Committee of Union and Progress and Modern Turkey. He traces the works of generations of reformers; engineers of a new social structure, as well as events that shaped the modernisation path. These articles especially deal with the period since the 1908 revolution, examining the process by which the new Turkey was formed. Ahmad also underlines the crises of legitimacy that characterized much of the period. Articles in two volumes are compiled thematically. First volume deals with the "ideas" of modernisation which spans the period of Young Turk Revolution to Kemalist Movement. That volume also elaborates various subjects such as unionist relations with minorities, the social and economic policy of the Young Turks and the political economy of Kemalism. Second volume discusses events of the period and comments from important figures such as Trotsky. This volume also contains articles on development of working-class consciousness, postage stamps that reflect ideology in the late Ottoman Empire and Ottoman perception of the capitulations. These two volumes also shed the light on problems of contemporary Turkey. Feroz Ahmad's works on Second Constitutional Monarchy and Modern Turkey are well-known. He is an important historian who observes and evaluates political structure of East; from Muslim India to Turkey. In these volumes, he evaluates the problems of Turkey in the last century and discusses with Turkologists and Turkish intellectuals. These articles are written in various times and compiled in a specific context.".

BÜLENT ARAS.
Turkey and the Greater Middle East.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 14 cm). In English. 172 p. Although traces of a greater Middle Eastern identity go back to the early 1990s, recent events and policy discussions on the Greater Middle East that view the region as having a discrete political as well as geographic identity have gained prominence in political circles and in academic analysis. Since the September 11 attacks to the U.S., the only country that promoted both security and freedom at home in the Greater Middle East region has been Turkey. Turkey is clearly on track to EU membership both in societal and state levels. Thanks to its dual European and Middle Eastern identities and its political and social modernization and its democratic standards, Turkey is strategically important to both U.S. and European interests in many respects and is therefore a natural key to any plan or concept that aims to promote democracy and raise living standards in this region. With its ability to reconcile democracy and Islam and as well as democracy and security, Turkey is the best candidate to suggest and help initiate internal mechanisms for positive change in the Greater Middle East.

LUIGI CADORNA, (1850-1928).
Ceneral Kadorna'nin (Cadorna, Luigi) hatirâti. Translated by Miralay Kadri.
Very Good English In contemporary cloth bdg. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Ottoman script. [2], [6], 264 p., 1 huge map. Özege: 2936. Memoirs of General Luigi Cadorna (1850-1928); was an Italian Field Marshal, most famous for being the chief of staff of the Italian army during the first part of World War I. Cadorna launched four offensives in 1915, all along the Isonzo River. The goal of these offensives was the fortress of Gorizia, the capture of which would permit the Italian armies to pivot south and march on Trieste, or continue on to the Ljubljana Gap. All four offensives failed, resulting in some 250,000 Italian casualties for little material gain. Cadorna would ultimately fight eleven battles on the Isonzo between 1915 and 1917. Additional forces were arrayed along the Trentino salient, attacking towards Rovereto, Trento, and Bolzano. These attacks also failed. The terrain along the Isonzo and Trentino was completely unsuited for offensive warfare-mountainous and broken, with no room for maneuver. On October 24, 1917, a combined Austro-Hungarian/German army struck across the Soca (the Slovene name for the Isonzo River) at Kobarid (called Caporetto in Italian) and by November 12 had advanced all the way to the Piave River. Cadorna's disposition of most of his troops far forward, with little defense in depth, contributed greatly to the disaster; but graver still were the responsibilities of other officers, notably Pietro Badoglio, then corps commander in a sector overrun by the Austro-German attack. Cadorna himself had been on leave for most of October and his immediate subordinate was seriously ill. The Italian Army fled in disarray and seemed on the verge of total collapse; 275,000 soldiers surrendered. Italy's allies Britain and France sent eleven divisions to reinforce the Italian front, and insisted on the dismissal of Cadorna.[4] The new Italian Prime Minister Vittorio Orlando was in agreement with the need for more competent military leadership and Cadorna was replaced as Chief of General Staff with the respected General Armando Diaz; Cadorna was appointed as the Italian representative to the Allied Supreme War Council set up in Versailles. Then the Italian forces rallied behind the Piave and Monte Grappa and reversed, with the help of the Allied divisions, the course of the conflict.

ALI FUAT CEBESOY, (1882-1968).
Moskova hatiralari, (21 / 11 / 1920 - 2 / 6 / 1922).
Very Good English In contemporary bdg. HC. Demy 8vo. (22 x 15 cm). In Turkish. 1 b/w portrait, 348, [2], [ix] p. Diplomatic memoirs of Ali Fuat Cebesoy was a Turkish officer, politician and statesman. Ali Fuat Pasha organized the resistance in Western Turkey against the Greek invasion and thus actually started the National Independence War. He contributed to the resistance forces against the Greek army that had begun to occupy Western Anatolia. He signed Amasya Protocol and at the end of the Sivas Congress in 1920, he was appointed as the general commander of the National Forces by the Board of Representatives. The presence of him and his army in Ankara is the reason behind Atatürk's choice of this city as the center of Turkish War of Independence. The same year, he was elected as a deputy at the First Parliament. He was appointed ambassador to Moscow, Soviet Union in 1921, as he had quarrels with Ismet Inonu, who was appointed by Atatürk as the Commander of the Western Front although Inonu had failed against Greek invasion at Kutahya-Altintas in 1921. By personally negotiating with Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin in Moscow, he signed the Treaty of Moscow (1921) along the lines of the Brest-Litovsk Peace Treaty as the representative of the Ankara government, which provided financial and military support from the Soviet Union to the Turkish Independence War, in exchange for the return of Batum back to Soviet Union. After finishing his duty as an ambassador, he was elected as the second spokesman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

LEYLA YILDIRIM.
Unfulfilled promises. Gallipoli, 1915.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 14 cm). In English. 432 p. 100th Year Of The Çanakkale War; From the pen of a woman, A Fairytalelike Novel Set During The Çanakkale War. Unfulfilled Promises features a great love story set against the backdrop of The Great War (1914-1918). Gül Nihal Semsettin journeys from Turkey to London and back again to her family home in Çanakkale. Having studied medicine in London stands her in good stead when the whole of the Çanakkale Peninsula becomes embroiled in the struggle by the Allied Forces to take the land by force. Her suitors are from military backgrounds posted to her homeland from England and Australia as part of the enemy, sent to attack Turkey. For a young Turkish woman to have an affair with an enemy soldier was enough to disgrace any respectable Turkish family; but that was only part of Gül's dilemma. My Dearest Boy, You are all I have in this world; a treasure entrusted to me by God. Sadly however, all I can entrust with you is this letter. I am sure you will always wish that we had spent more time together and you will probably read it again and again. Undoubtedly you will wish that I was beside you but sadly, we have both been deprived of that joy, my angel. I want to assure you that although I'm reluctantly being dragged away from you my heart will continue to beat with yours. Don't forget that when you love someone, distances don't matter and nothing is impossible.
