Two original department store catalogues from Army and Navy Stores Limited both published in the immediate build-up and beginning of the Second World War with thousands of original advertisements. The original General Price Lists of the popular London department store Army and Naval Stores Limited during the years 1937-1940 during the lead up and outbreak to the Second World War. Two volumes no. 103 1937-1938 and no. 104 1939-1940 in the series. In the publisher's original red cloth. Numerous illustrated advertisements throughout both volumes including on end papers. 1937-1938 contains three colour plates while 1939-1940 contains four colour plates. Collated complete. Originally established as a co-operative society for military and naval personnel in in the late nineteenth century by 1937 the group had become a limited company and a department store open to all with its flagship store in Victoria Street London. The department stores was eventually bought by House of Fraser in 1973.The catalogues contain an array of original advertisements during the immediate build-up and first year of the Second World War including military badges rifles beds and much more. In the publisher's original red cloth. Externally mostly smart with fading to boards heavier to 1937-1938 and spine of 1939-1940. Rubbing to 1937-1938 has resulted in loss to black glint on boards heavier to spine and extremities. Slight loss to cloth on front joint of 1937-1938 and a small loss to top left corner of black board. Small spots to spine of 1939-1940. Signs of shelf wear with bumping to tail of spine and extremities of 1939-1940 and to spine of 1937-1938. End papers are bright and clean with slight dirt trapped to hinges heavier to 1937-1938. Signs of wear to end paper hinges of 1937-1938 heavier to rear end papers. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with slight age toning to the occasional leaf.
