"Besold's berühmtestes Werk...es gibt über juristische, ökonomische und historische Dinge die reichhaltigste Auskunft" (St.-L.). Wichtigstes dogmatisches Rechtslexikon im 17. Jahrhundert! Christoph Besold (1577-1638), studierte in Tübingen, war dort zunächst Advokat und seit 1600 Professor für Pandekten an der dortigen Universität. Besolds berühmtestes Werk ist der "Thesaurus practicus". Bereits die erste Ausgabe von 1629 ist von seinem Schüler J. J. Speidel besorgt worden. Das Werk ist alphabetisch geordnet und nach Schlagworten aufgebaut. Es umfaßt vorwiegend juristische Termini, es sind jedoch auch ökonomische und historische zu finden. Nach den großen Lexika des 16. Jahrhunderts ist der Besold nach dem Muster des usus modernus ein dogmatisch eingerichtetes, durch viele Allegationen und Excerpten angereichertes Rechtslexikon.‎

Half calf with six gilt-ruled spine compartments and a gilt-tooled leather label in the second compartment reading: Prosecution of Quakers. Marbled paper over boards. All page edges marbled. Inscription largely erased from front fixed endpaper. Published anonymously by Quaker Joseph Besse who produced a number of important volumes recording the legal woes of early English and Welsh Quakers. This volume describes the prosecutions of Quakers from 1696 to 1736 in England and Wales arranged alphabetically by county. Quakers were prosecuted for refusing to pay the annual tithe one tenth of their income and other support for the Church of England. In Very Good- Condition: cover is rubbed; spine is sunned; leather is starting to separated at the head of the spine and lacking small section of leather at head of spine; first and last leaves have soiling of corners and light foxing; pages are otherwise clean and tight. Mit Frontispiz im Kupferstich nach Beduzzi durch Johann Georg Wolfgang, einer Titelkupfer und 4 figürlichen Kopfvignetten, davon 3 durch Johann Adam Schmutzer und eine durch Johann Georg Pintz, einem mit zwei Platten bedruckten Dedikationsblatt, ebenfalls gestochen durch Wolfgang, 38 gestochenen Urkundenfaksimiles auf Tafeln, 17 figürlichen Schlussvignetten von Pintz (variierend), einer zweifach gefalteten Karte, einer Textkupfer, einigen historisierten Primärinitialen und eingedruckten Marginalien. Vorhanden ist die Karte "Palatiorum sive villarum regalium in regno Franciae orientalis teutonico tabula ex chartis atque diplomatibus medii aevi ad rationes pagorum attemperata". Der Benediktiner Gottfried Bessel (1672-1749) hatte insgesamt drei Bände zur Geschichte des von ihm geleiteten Klosters Göttweig geplant, an der der Geistliche Franz Josef von Hahn mitarbeitete. Das eigentliche Hauptwerk sollte mit dem zweiten Band begonnen werden, das sich dann explizit mit der Geschichte des Stiftes Göttweig auseinandersetzen sollte. Im letztlich einzig publizierten ersten Band des "Chronicon Gotwicense" hielt Bessel sich sehr eng an Jean Mabillons "De re diplomatica libri VI". "Dieser erste und einzige Band ist eine der frühesten und wertvollsten Abhandlungen über Paläographie, Diplomatik, deutsche historische Topographie etc. Die eigentliche Chronik von Göttweig ist nie gedruckt worden." (MNE, I,69). Einband etwas berieben und an den Ecken etwas bestoßen, Rücken an den Kapitalen mit kleinen Randfehlstellen, Außengelenke an einigen Stellen eingerissen (ca. 10 cm), 2 Karten fehlend, Seiten und Tafeln an einigen Stellen leicht bis vereinzelt mäßig stockfleckig (häufig lediglich in den Rändern, seltener seitenfüllend) und lediglich partieweise etwas deutlicher gebräunt, sehr vereinzelt Seiten mit kleineren Rand- oder Eckfehlstellen (ohne Text- oder Bildberührung), Band 1 im vorderen Innengelenk etwas gelockert (Bindung ansonsten fest) und mit Spuren eines entfernten Exlibris am vorderen Spiegel, Titelblatt und Frontispiz desselben Bandes etwas gebräunt und fleckig, Seite 271/272 mit Randeinriss (ca. 5 cm, ohne Textberührung), ab Seite 400 bis Seite 440 wechselnd in den Stegen auftauchender Wasserrand (leicht nachgebräunt, nicht wellig, minimale Text- bzw. Bildberührung), Faltkarte in Band 2 mit Einriss im Falz (ca. ca. 12 cm, geringer Bildverlust) und mit kleineren Randläsuren und -knickspuren. Gutes Exemplar.‎
