Il libro di Steinberg è la ricostruzione dell'ideologia della SPD nel periodo che va dagli anni settanta alla prima guerr mondiale. Al confronto critico con la tesi corrente del kautskismo come supporto dell'integrazione fanno seguito i grandi capitoli sul revisionismo, il riformismo, il praticismo. Ma oltre a delineare il quadro delle varie «anime» della SPD - dal marxismo al darwinismo sociale- l'analisi si ferma su un materiale ormai raro come le letture degli operai socialdemocratici, che si ricavano dalla Newe Zeit, dai cataloghi delle biblioteche operaie e dalla stampa di partito. Si disegna così anche un profilo inedito dei semplici militanti di base e del loro mondo concettuale. Hans Josef Steinberg, nato a Colonia nel 1935, insegna nell'università di Brema e collabora al Forschungsinstitut della Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. Oltre all'introduzione a un'edizione dell'Antidühring (1967) ha scritto Widerstand und Verfolgung in Essen 1933-1945 (Hannover, 1969) e Die Reichsgrundung 1870-71 (Stuttgart, 1970). Attualmente sta curando la pubblicazione del carteggio Bernstein-Kautsky.

Ed. orig. di questa curiosa opera di derivazione fourierista, dedicata ai vantaggi della vita comunitaria e indirizzata in particolare ai vedovi e ai celibi. Harel nelle prime due sezioni presenta i vantaggi, sia fisici (perlopiu' legati alla nutrizione e alla salute) che morali (l'autore condanna l'abitudine del cenare, soli, ai tavoli di un ristorante) del vivere in comunita'. Nella terza affronta l'organizzazione della casa stessa. Testo di grande attualita' che propone, in parte, le modalita' legate ad un modello di decrescita ante litteram. Pur puntando molto sui meccanismi utilitaristici del progetto (fare piu' cose con minor dispendio) si intravedeno sullo sfondo la personalita' di Fourier e le sue dottrine. In tutta la prima parte viene anche esaminato il vantaggio nell'acquisto diretto delle derrate da parte di un nutrito consesso di partecipanti, al fine di evitare le molte truffe commerciali e contribuire cosi' ad una migliore conservazione della propria salute. "Ce qui distingue avant tout l'utopie des autres ouvrages de théorie politique, c'est que la société idéale y prend corps dans un espace concret, peuplé de personnes que l’on se représente en train de vaquer à leurs tâches quotidiennes" (cf. 'The Commonwealth of Oceana' parut en 1656 à Londres durant la période "républicaine" qui s'étend de l'exécution de Charles Ier à la restauration par son fils Charles II. L'ouvrage est dédié à Oliver Cromwell, bien que celui-ci fit censurer la première version du livre. L'oeuvre, qui demeure un grand oublié dans l'histoire de la philosophie politique en France, est d'une importance fondamentale pour la genèse et l'émergence des régimes représentatifs modernes. Les idées exposées par Harrington ont directement inspiré les constituants de plusieurs états américains et, en France, Sieyès et la Constitution de l'an VIII dont il fut le principal artisan. Karadeniz was a student leader of the late 1960s generation in Turkey and the chair of the Student Union of Istanbul Technical University. Together with other prominent student leaders such as Deniz Gezmis, he was one of the student leaders who organized the famous 1968 protest against the American Navy's Sixth Fleet arriving at the Port of Istanbul, although he was initially against protesting at the docks themselves. Karadeniz suffered cancer when he was in detention after the 1971 military coup in Turkey. He was not allowed medical treatment during his imprisonment, which eventually led to the spread of the cancer. Despite medical treatment in London, he died at age 33. In this book, he has tried to adapt Brecht's socialist method to the society in Turkey. Title means 'Capitalists without capital'. OCLC has late editions, not this edition. Extremely rare.

Nonostante sia attraversato da ricorrenti crisi interne così profonde da mettere a rischio la sopravvivenza di intere nazioni, il capitalismo continua a espandersi, incontrastato. Scopo di questo libro è capire come ciò accada e se sia inevitabile che continui ad avvenire anche in futuro. Il libro si apre con un'ampia e dettagliata ricostruzione dei fatti relativi alla crisi economica che da tempo attraversa il capitalismo finanziario globale e alle innumerevoli altre crisi che hanno contrassegnato il percorso del capitalismo dal secondo dopoguerra a oggi. Questa ricostruzione, informatissima ma anche molto chiara e leggibile, porta Harvey a porre un problema classico del marxismo: quello, cioè, del carattere strutturale delle crisi che il capitalismo attraversa, uscendone di volta in volta trasformato ma anche consolidato e rafforzato. Dopo aver toccato il tema della crescita illimitata, il libro si chiude con un'analisi critica delle alternative percorse in passato e percorribili oggi per un socialismo sostenibile, giusto, responsabile e umano.
