ril. Giovedì 2 settembre 1971. Un carro funebre, partito dal cimitero Maggiore di Milano, sfreccia lungo la Riviera italiana e francese in direzione del confine spagnolo. L'autista non sa ancora chi sta portando a Madrid. I documenti identificano la defunta come Maria Maggi vedova De Magistris, ma l'eccentrico personaggio che accompagna il feretro, e si presenta come il fratello, sa che quelle carte mentono. Nella bara c'è il corpo mummificato di Evita, che per quattordici anni è stata sepolta sotto falso nome. Sta tornando dal marito, Juan Domingo Perón, l'ex presidente dell'Argentina, esule nella Spagna di Francisco Franco dopo essere stato deposto nel 1955 dalla Revolución Libertadora. Inizia così, con i ricordi tuttora vividi dello chauffeur italiano che inconsapevolmente contribuì a trafugare la mummia più ricercata al mondo, la biografia della donna che in patria continua a essere venerata come una santa. Oppure odiata come un'arrampicatrice senza scrupoli. Quel viaggio, in fondo, è anche la metafora della vita di Eva Duarte: un'esistenza vissuta a tutta velocità, bruciata dall'ansia di arrivare. br. Nella primavera del 1934 Margherita Sarfatti (1880-1961) compie un lungo viaggio nel Nord America. Vuole immergersi nella nazione «più grande del vero», farsene un'idea personale al di là degli stereotipi, Accolta come una "regina senza corona" tiene conferenze, parla alla radio, cerca di spiegare il fascismo agli americani e, soprattutto, al presidente Roosevelt, che la riceve alla Casa Bianca. Al ritorno si illude di convincere Mussolini della necessità di stringere rapporti con Washington, nel nome di una comune civiltà, piuttosto che con la Berlino di Hitler. Ma per il dittatore l'America «non conta niente», Alla raffinata intellettuale veneziana non resta che un'ultima carta: affidare nel 1937 il suo testamento politico e culturale a "L'America, ricerca della felicità", un saggio in cui luci e ombre si alternano, nel quadro di un complessivo innamoramento per gli Stati Uniti. Pochi mesi dopo - in piena campagna antisemita - il libro viene ritirato dal commercio. La donna che aveva creato il mito del Dux sceglie l'esilio.

Alla luce delle ricerche e delle novità emerse dal 2007 al 2018, si ripercorrono, dal sec. XIII al XXI, le vicende storico-politiche dalla Rocca al Principato di Monaco (1297-2018) e dalla Baronia di Risichillia ai principi di S. Caterina (1564-1661). Oltre alle successioni dei signori, dei principi e principesse di Monaco (1342-2011) e alla genealogia dei Grimaldi di Genova, dai capostipiti ad oggi (1133- 2019), si analizza la storia dei Grimaldi del IX ramo, da Carlo I, signore di Monaco, a Enrico e da Simone a Giulio Maria Grimaldi, ultimo principe di S. Caterina (1342-1742).
