Hardcover, bound in contemporary quarter shagreen and marbled boards, spine in compartments between raised band, a little chafed, gilt lettering, French Vellum corners, cloth inner hinges, marbled endpapers, sprinkled edges, very few worm holes at foot of spine with some worming evidence at foot of inner hinge. Handsome, wide-margined copy, in overall fine condition. ~ First French edition. An unnumbered copy from a limited edition of 500 copies only.

In plain paper boards with the original upper wrapper, printed in red and black, laid down bit chipped at bottom; bit dust soiled in places, bit dog-eared. A wide-margined copy in good condition, which is preserved in the original state, untrimmed, unopened, practically unused. ~ First French edition. Second volume. A double leaf with list of illustrations and general contents, from a later edition, is loosely inserted as a reference, not being originally published with the 1st edition.
