Large numbers of fragments of mould-made standing draped female figurines dating to the Classical period were found at Salamis not in association with a particular building but in debris associated with the ramparts suggesting the location of a sanctuary nearby. 909 items are catalogued in this volume. Some figures have a decorated headdress calathos others are carrying various types of animals birds flowers or other objects or holding their breasts. Analysis of the figurines indicates that certain series were made in workshops at Salamis whereas others were probably made elsewhere in eastern Cyprus. The figurines are an important source of information on female dress and jewellery of the time and they illuminate fashions and tastes at Salamis in the 5th- 4th centuries B.C. ‎The Greek military victories at Marathon, Salamis, and Plataia during the Persian Wars profoundly shaped fifth-century politics and culture. By long tradition, the victors commemorated their deliverance by dedicating thank-offerings in the sanctuaries of their gods, and the Athenians erected no fewer than ten new temples and other buildings. Because these buildings were all at some stage of construction during the political ascendency of Perikles, in the third quarter of the fifth century, modern writers refer to them collectively as the Periklean building program. In Trophies of Victory, T. Leslie Shear, Jr., who directed archaeological excavations at the Athenian Agora for more than twenty-five years, provides the first comprehensive account of the Periklean buildings as a group. This richly illustrated book examines each building in detail, including its archaeological reconstruction, architectural design, sculptural decoration, chronology, and construction history. Shear emphasizes the Parthenon?s revolutionary features and how they influenced smaller contemporary temples. He examines inscriptions that show how every aspect of public works was strictly controlled by the Athenian Assembly. In the case of the buildings on the Acropolis and the Telesterion at Eleusis, he looks at accounts of their overseers, which illuminate the administration, financing, and organization of public works. ‎An authetic work that contains the epigraphical records, preserved in the Kamakotipeetha, which provides authoritative information about the origin and development of the Monastery as well as the Religious inclinations of the kings of Tanjore and Vijayanagar. Sankaracarya, the chief exponent of Advaita philosophy, developed the unique monastic orders of the Dasanamis, ten Classes of the Vedantic sannyasins. For the purpose of Management and organization, he established, as is known from the traditional lores, four Mathas, i.e. monasteries: Sarada Math at Dwarka, Sringeri Math at Karnataka, Govardhana Math at Puri and Joshi Math at Badrinath. Having Sringeri at the lead, they played the key role in Hindu monastricism and religious orders. Apart from these four, some other monateries also came into existence; Kamakotipeeth at Kumbhaghonam is the foremost among them. This Math also has made great contribution in the furtherance of the Advaita Philosophy and claims an equal status with the Srinageri Math. The present work contains the epigraphical records, preserved in the Kama-Kotipeeth, which provide authoritative informations about the origin and development of the Math as well as the religious inclinations of the then kings of Tanjore and Vujayanagara.
