Also these two volumes are presented here in the first edition, to be distinguished from the second edition of the entire work which also appeared that year. Some of the volumes here occasionally with light marginal annotations in pencil or light pen, few cases within the text, some underlining, few cases in light colour crayon, all in the characteristic neat hand of Prof. Dr. Herman te Velde from whose library this wonderful set comes. Buck, Adriaan de.
Het typische en het individueele bij de Egyptenaren. Rede uitgesproken bij de opening zijner lessen als lector in de Egyptologie aan de Rijks-Universiteit te Leiden op 5 juni 1929.
Crown quarto. Pp. 29. Original printed wrappers; small inscription. In a very good condition. ~ First edition. Extremely rare original of De Buck's oration, addressed at the Leiden University on June 5, 1929 on the occasion of his first lecture there. His doctoral thesis was presented at Leiden seven years earlier, almost to the day. Published privately by the now defunct Leiden printers firm of IJdo. Adriaan de Buck (1892-1959) studied Egyptology under Sethe, Erman and Möller to become later one of the foremost Egyptologists of his time. In 1922 he gained a theological doctorate at the University of Leiden, for which he wrote a thesis on the Primeval Hill as a concept in Egyptian religion, "a work which has exercised a profound influence on all later studies on the Heliopolitan theology". (Dawson & Uphill). In 1925 he was asked by Gardiner and Breasted to edit an extensive and fully comprehensive edition of the Coffin Texts to be published by the Oriental Institute of Chicago. At the time of his death seven great volumes of texts had appeared, and part of his other great work of translating and commenting on them had also been completed, "an achievement rarely equalled by one individual in the field of Egyptology". Beinlich-Seeber 4218.

Octavo. Pp. 165-171. Original printed stiff wrappers; inscription. In a very good condition. ~ First edition. Nachrichten der Akademie der Wissenschaften in Göttingen, 1965. Philippe Derchain (1926-2012). AEB 65143. ~[Librarium of The Hague offers the largest and finest collection of Egyptological offprint monographs in the rare book market. With the acquisition in recent years of multiple Egyptological libraries (those of Prof. Herman te Velde; Prof. Mathieu Heerma van Voss, Prof. Baudouin van de Walle; Prof. Michel Malaise; Prof. Herman De Meulenaere; Egyptologist Jacobus Visser, and former Trustee of the Egypt Exploration Society, Stewart Dale White), we now hold several thousands of rare offprint monographs which were collected over many years by these scholars. Very limited in number when originally issued and fragile by nature, most are by now practically extinct and the scarce survivors are much sought after. We took upon ourselves to collate, catalogue, and identify each item in accordance with Beinlich-Seeber or Annual Egyptological Bibliography, in the hope that this collection will prove useful for scholars and collectors alike. Your queries are most welcome]
