‎Nearly 3,000 specimens of lamps of Roman character are catalogued in this volume that covers the period from the 1st century B. C. to the 8th century A. D. The lamps are not easy to classify because the appearance of the clay used is not an infallible guide to the place of manufacture and the molds used to create the shapes were used widely around the Mediterranean. Terracotta lamps were probably made for local consumption in most cities of Greece; only a few centers, notably Athens and Corinth, developed an export trade capable of competing with local manufacturers. Since lamps from Athens do appear at other sites, the presentation of a well-dated sample of these finds provides useful reference material for scholars working at other sites.‎

‎Summary The spurs of horse riders have long been acknowledged as an important item of grave furniture in the Late Roman and Migration period burials of Poland, a reflection of the high social position held by the deceased. ‎Hoards are among the most enigmatic of archaeological finds. ‎Der sp tklassische Tempel der Athena Polias in Priene, ein Werk des Architekten Pytheos wird im vorliegenden Band III der Priene-Reihe nach neuen Aufnahmen der Ruine und aller erreichbaren Bauteile dargestellt. Das Grundrissraster und die Metrologie der S ulenordnung dieses ionischen Peripteros auf der Basis seiner Jochweite (353,3 cm = 12 att. Fu ) wird nachgewiesen. Er wurde geplant und begonnen in einer Epoche der Wiederbelebung altionischer Formen im karisch-ionischen Herrschaftsbereich der Hekatomniden (reg. 392-334). Der Tempel wird in die Baugeschichte seiner Zeit als und in die neuzeitliche Rezeption und Forschung eingeordnet.‎

‎This book is the initial publication in a four-volume series on the collection of cuneiform tablets and inscriptions in the Metropolitan Museum's Department of Ancient Near Eastern Art. It is a scholarly study of objects acquired largely during the 1880s, when the Metropolitan became the first American museum to acquire a substantial number of cuneiform texts. Today the Museum's collection totals more than five hundred texts and fragments; the publication of these volumes will make these texts available in a manner that will instruct and inform as wide an audience as possible. Cuneiform Texts in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Volume I: Tablets, Cones, and Bricks of the Third and Second Millennia B.C. presents 120 commercial texts, legal texts, and letters, along with cones and bricks, from ancient Mesopotamia. This material is offered in both transliteration and translation, with drawings and selected photographs of the tablets as well as descriptions, drawings, and photographs of the seal impressions appearing on them. Features of special interest in this volume include the presentation of Sumerian ledger-account translations in modern accounting formats; allocations for the royal family of the Sumerian king Sulgi of the Third Dynasty of Ur; an Old Babylonian military confrontation with the Kassites, as disclosed in correspondence; Old Assyrian correspondence involving smuggling, moth-eaten textile shipments, legal testimony, and a caravan report presented in both textual translation and modern-ledger format; as well as new collations and translations of Amarna-period royal correspondence. Ira Spar is the editor of the Museum's cuneiform-tablet project, with a distinguished international group of collaborators assisting in the preparation of the texts.
