Illustrated throughout by Frederic Remington the most successful Western illustrator in the Golden Age of illustration with twelve additional plates not present in the first edition. Collated complete. From the library of Pansy Ireland with her signature to front paste down. Ireland was the owner of Pebble Hill Plantation and accomplished horsewoman and a well known collector of antiquarian books. The second of Roosevelt's series of four books on hunting and ranching the work follows his experiences working on a ranch in the west of the country. Roosevelt owned a ranch on the Little Missouri in Dakota Territory and details the struggles and charms of ranching and hunting in the area. The work covers a number of his adventures in the area including cowboys hunting bear and his time spent as deputy sheriff. In the publisher's original cloth binding.
