He would lose the 1928 election in a landslide. Kermit Roosevelt's signature on ffep; SIGNED on the ffep book actually signed NOT one of the tipped in labels. Provenance: Purchased from Roosevelt family members from of a group of books belonging to Kermit and Belle Roosevelt. A few passages underlined in pencil including: "My father explained to me that this trip to Africa was a holiday that he was allowing himself at fifty after a very busy life -- that if I went I would have to make up my mind that my holiday was coming at the beginning of my life and be prepared to work doubly hard to justify both him and myself for having taken it." Illegible to me pencil note on rear board. In this collection of essays Roosevelt recounts his travels around the globe on various hunting trips with his father and siblings. The title essay is Kermit's reminiscence of his father Theodore Roosevelt. The other five essays include three that had been previously published in magazines. Written in the spirit of his father Theodore Roosevelt's wilderness books The Happy Hunting Grounds is a collection of hunting stories some of which recount the expeditions Kermit took with his father. Theodore once said of his son "It is rare for a boy with his refined tastes and his genuine appreciation of literature -- and of so much else -- to be also an exceptionally bold and hardy sportsman." Kermit Roosevelt 1889 – 1943 was a son of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. He was an explorer a graduate of Harvard University a soldier serving in two world wars with both the British and U.S. Armies a businessman and a writer. Kermit Roosevelt accompanied Theodore Roosevelt on expeditions to Africa and the Amazon. Theodore Roosevelt's book Through the Brazilian Wilderness recounted the father-and-son expedition into the Amazon Basin Brazilian jungle in 1913–14. What became known as the Roosevelt-Rondon Scientific Expedition exploring the Brazilian jungle with explorer Colonel Cândido Rondon they explored the River of Doubt later renamed Rio Roosevelt in honor of the President.; Signed by Author . Delivered in the midst of the Great Depression FDR's first inaugural is most remembered for its iconic phrase "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Instilling hope and courage the address would be a key moment in 20th century Amercan history in which FDR laid out what would become known as the New Deal.<br /> <br /> The present Harbor Press edition of FDR's First Inaugural was taken from a stenographic transcript and thus incorporated Roosvelt's numerous last-minute changes. It "is therefore the first appearance in book form of the First Inaugural as listeners actually heard it delivered" Halter p.107. Beautifully printed the design of this publication is characteristic of the work of John S. Fass 1890-1973 who co-founded the Harbor Press with Roland Wood 1896-1980 in 1925. <br /> <br /> Three issues of the work were printed in variant bindings: 10 copies bound in scarlet calfskin issued to FDR and his closest advisors; 30 unnumbered copies in green cloth; and 150 in gray wrappers.
