Roosevelt, Eleanor
Eleanor Roosevelt Signed Dollar Bill.
1935. Original series 1935 A one dollar silver certificate boldly signed by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. In fine condition. The entire piece measures 15 inches by 12 inches. We have never seen another signed dollar bill by Roosevelt. Eleanor Roosevelt was an American political leader who used her influence as an active First Lady from 1933 to 1945 to promote the New Deal policies of her husband President Franklin D. Roosevelt as well as taking a prominent role as an advocate for civil rights. After her husband's death in 1945 she continued to be an internationally prominent author and speaker for the New Deal coalition. She was a suffragist who worked to enhance the status of working women although she opposed the Equal Rights Amendment because she believed it would adversely affect women. In the 1940s she was one of the co-founders of Freedom House and supported the formation of the United Nations. Eleanor Roosevelt founded the UN Association of the United States in 1943 to advance support for the formation of the UN. She was a delegate to the UN General Assembly from 1945 and 1952 a job for which she was appointed by President Harry S. Truman and confirmed by the United States Congress. During her time at the United Nations chaired the committee that drafted and approved the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. President Truman called her the "First Lady of the World" in tribute to her human rights achievements. unknown

Roosevelt, Eleanor
Eleanor Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed When she was US Delegate to the UN
Eleanor Roosevelt. Remarkable first lady as well known for her work as a social reformer in her time in the White House and first female UN delegate. On her personal letterhead which lists the Park Sheraton Hotel as her address she writes a cryptic note to a Mr. Leiser: "Your letter did not reach me in time to send you the material you asked for by the 22nd." Typed letter with bold signature in deep blue fountainhead ink. May 22 1952. New York New York. 1 page.

This was written when Roosevelt was working as a delegate in the U.N. and serving as chairperson of the U.N.'s Commission of Human Rights so the mysterious content is likely related to her official duties. "I have asked the labor Department to send you the information" she promises. Eleanor Roosevelt remains one of the most accomplished first ladies in United States history and the energetic brisk tone to this letter belies just how many responsibilities she accepted on behalf of the vulnerable not just in America but also abroad. "I appreciate your kind words" she ends on a warm note before concluding "Very sincerely yours Eleanor Roosevelt". Dark brown dot in upper right corner; in near fine condition. unknown

Roosevelt, Eleanor
Eleanor Roosevelt White House Signed Engraving.
Rare signed White House engraving boldly signed by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. In near fine condition. The position of the First Lady has evolved over the centuries with her role first and foremost as the hostess of the white house and advisor to the President. With Eleanor Roosevelt’s tenure as the longest-serving First Lady the role became increasingly involved in social activism and patronage for the arts. Roosevelt was succeeded by Bess Truman Mamie Doud Eisenhower Jacqueline Kennedy and finally Lady Bird Johnson. With John F. Kennedy’s inauguration Jacqueline Kennedy became the youngest First Lady of the United States at the age of 31 and redefined the role by hiring her own press secretary to strictly control her exposure to the media. unknown
