‎brossura Negli ultimi mesi di una vita segnata da una speculazione che tende a inverarsi nell'azione politica, Ugo Spirito ha lavorato a un volume sull'Iran governato da Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Un libro rimasto inedito nella sua stesura integrale e oggetto, in tempi diversi, di manipolazioni e censure. A quarant'anni di distanza il testo appare nella sua versione originale, che rivela il reale pensiero del filosofo. Lo sforzo compiuto da Spirito è stato volto, nell'autunno del 1978, a comprendere e illustrare criticamente le linee guida della "rivoluzione bianca" dello Scià - avviata nel 1963 - inquadrandole nella storia della Persia e valutandone le possibili evoluzioni, mentre il Paese era sconvolto dalle proteste di piazza sfociate nel 1979 nella rivoluzione islamica guidata dall'ayatollah Khomeyni. Lo Scià appare a Ugo Spirito come un sovrano illuminato e ne valuta positivamente il sogno di trasformare l'Iran in una sorta di Città del Sole, nella quale regnino l'armonia e la collaborazione tra le classi sociali, nella prospettiva di un intenso sviluppo industriale. Una "città" laica, in cui non vi siano più sfruttatori e sfruttati, ricchi e poveri, proprietari e servi, secondo la tradizione socialista dalla quale, secondo Spirito, lo Scià ha tratto ispirazione per tracciare una "terza via" tra liberismo e comunismo. Per quanto illuminato, Spirito giudica il regime iraniano un dispotismo dittatoriale, errato sul piano teorico e fatalmente destinato a terminare con la scomparsa del suo protagonista.‎

‎This is a hardcover copy in a very nice pink dust jacket, that is not price-clipped ($5.00) that is also printed with a woodcut illustration of the fabled "Oak Alley". The book itself is in very good condition, as the light brown cloth covers are very clean and unmarked, even the tipped-on title on pink paper (the same paper as the jacket) looks as fresh as the day it was published. Inside the book there is some offsetting on the printed pink paper paste-down, some foxing to about 10 pages at the beginning and 15 pages or so at the end, otherwise very nice. The dust jacket is almost all there: the back panel is fine, the front panel and spine are present, but there is a small piece missing from the top of the spine which just extends onto the edge of the front panel, not affecting the image or text on the front cover. 10" high X 7 1/2" wide, 162 pages. Text by Natalie Scott. Introduction by N.C.Curtis. About 37 wonderful woodcut illustrations of Louisiana plantation houses by William Spratling, as well as headpiece and tailpiece decorations and other small vignettes for each of the 8 chapters. Index of old houses mentioned or illustrated in the text lists 73 properties. All in all, a beautiful copy in the rare dust jacket. Sebbene il testo di Sartre, scritto poco prima del referendum sulla Costituzione della V Repubblica, non descriva esattamente una realtà comparabile alla nostra, tuttavia Spurk riesce a offrire una panoramica della situazione critica contemporanea, che ci appare come una radicalizzazione della situazione descritta da Sartre: lo scacco del sistema politico, la personalizzazione, la serialità come caratteristica specifica dell'industria culturale, l'incapacità dello "spazio pubblico" di generare del pubblico. La dialettica tra spazio pubblico e privatizzazione dei bisogni e degli impulsi sono altri aspetti importanti analizzati nel testo e l'immagine della "palude che si dissecca" mette in rilievo una crisi che coinvolge a pieno il mondo d'oggi.‎

L'itinerario poetico di Luigi Fallacara (Bari 1890-Firenze 1963) è segnato da due date, il 1914 - anno delle sue prime pubblicazioni su "Lacerba" - e il 1952, quando dà alle stampe la sua "autoantologia". Fra questi estremi il poeta ha attraversato tutti i fenomeni culturali del primo Novecento: il maledettismo rimbaudiano-campaniano dell'esperienza lacerbiana, l'illuminato misticismo assisiate, la poesia pura ungarettiana, la "rinascenza" della scrittura cattolica e l'ermetismo nato all'interno del "Frontespizio", la rivista fiorentina che più di tutte segnò la sua attività creativa. Questa monografia, la prima dedicata a Fallacara, ripercorre la sua formazione, la costituzione del suo immaginario (mai del tutto slegato dalle origini pugliesi), l'insieme delle relazioni intellettuali che gli consentirono la partecipazione alle più importanti pagine della storia letteraria novecentesca, e propone una guida alla lettura delle raccolte poetiche di quegli anni con un apparato esegetico adeguato e funzionale.‎

Tale mosaico ci mostra un Kafka poco conosciuto: frequentatore di casinò e bordelli, o di un collezionista di foto osé, o in ufficio in preda al "fou rire" di fronte al sussiegoso superiore, o fra gli appassionati di nuoto e d'aeroplani, o seduto in giostra in mezzo a ragazzine vocianti, ma anche abile falsificatore della firma altrui - si tratti di Thomas Mann o di una sedicenne vagheggiata a Weimar... Fra le sorprese che ci riserva il libro vi è la prima Lettera al padre, rivolta ancora ai "Cari genitori", e la piantina dell'appartamento in cui Gregor Samsa si risveglia trasformato in un insetto. Se esilarante è la pubblica lettura della Colonia penale in una galleria di Monaco, dove gli astanti cadono in deliquio o fuggono, incapaci di reggere quell'"odore di sangue", mentre Kafka prosegue imperterrito, commovente è la storia delle lettere che lo scrittore attribuisce a una bambola persa in un parco di Berlino, per consolare una bambina in lacrime. Lettere perdute per sempre. Conservato è invece l'appello a Kafka di un infelice messo alle strette dalla cugina che non comprende il senso della Metamorfosi.‎

Stallo's The concepts and theories of modern physics the importance of which is explained in four columns in the DSB was reprinted in 1960. Johann Bernhard Stallo was born in Sierhausen Oldenburg Germany. After an early education in Germany he emigrated to the United States in 1839. He pursued a varied career in teaching and the law in the United States in Cincinnati and New York City. The translator Itzik Feffer 1900 �1952 �was a Soviet Yiddish poet executed on the Night of the Murdered Poets during Joseph Stalin's purges�During the Second World War he was a military reporter with the rank of colonel and was vice chairman of the Soviet Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee JAC. He and Solomon Mikhoels traveled to the United States in 1943 in a well-documented fund-raising trip. In 1948 after the assassination of the JAC Chairman Solomon Mikhoels Feffer along with other JAC members was arrested and accused of treason. Feffer had been an informer for the NKVD predecessor of the KGB since 1943. FeFfer reportedly cooperated with the investigation providing false information that would lead to the arrest and indictment of over a hundred people but at the trial he made openly nationalistic statements and expressed pride in his Jewish identity. Feffer had also allegedly been one of the �most loyal and conformist Yiddish poets� who had helped to enforce strict ideological control over other Yiddish writers and had a history of denouncing colleagues for their �nationalistic hysteria�. However in 1952 Feffer along with other defendants was tried at a closed JAC trial and executed on August 12 1952 at Lubyanka prison�.The American concert singer and actor Paul Robeson met Feffer on July 8 1943 in New York during a Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee event chaired by Albert Einstein one of the largest pro-Soviet rallies ever held in the United States. After the rally Paul Robeson and his wife Eslanda Robeson befriended Feffer and Mikhoels. Six years later in June 1949 during the 150th anniversary celebration of the birth of Alexander Pushkin Robeson visited the Soviet Union to sing in concert. According to David Horowitz: �In America the question "What happened to Itzik Feffer" entered the currency of political debate. There was talk in intellectual circles that Jews were being killed in a new Soviet purge and that Feffer was one of them. It was to quell such rumors that Robeson asked to see his old friend but he was told by Soviet officials that he would have to wait. Eventually he was informed that the poet was vacationing in the Crimea and would see him as soon as he returned. The reality was that Feffer had already been in prison for a half year and his Soviet captors did not want to bring him to Robeson immediately because he had become emaciated from lack of food. While Robeson waited in Moscow Stalin's police brought Feffer out of prison put him the care of doctors and began fattening him up for the interview. When he looked sufficiently healthy he was brought to Moscow. The two men met in a room that was under secret surveillance. Feffer knew he could not speak freely. When Robeson asked how he was he drew his finger nervously across his throat and motioned with his eyes and lips to his American comrade. They're goin to kill us he said. When you return to America you must speak out and save us.� During his concert in Tchaikovsky Hall on June 14 - which was broadcast across the entire country - Robeson publicly paid tribute to Feffer and the late Mikhoels singing the Vilna Partisan song �Zog Nit Keynmol� in both Russian and Yiddish�.Feffer was a prolific poet who wrote almost exclusively in Yiddish and his poems were widely translated into Russian and Ukrainian. He is considered one of the greatest Soviet poets in the Yiddish language and his poems were widely admired inside and outside Russia� Wikipedia 2019. ‎brossura Negli anni Quaranta del secolo scorso Elio Vittorini curò gli apparati iconografici delle collane Pantheon teatrale e Pantheon letteraria per la Bompiani. Scelse personalmente le illustrazioni, andò a caccia di dipinti e affreschi, scovò libri di pittura. Nel 1945 iniziò l'avventura del Politecnico e in quella rivista Vittorini diede spazio a pittura, arte, architettura, fotografia, cinema, fumetti. Vittorini curò anche tutta la meravigliosa serie I Millenni dell'Einaudi, scegliendo personalmente tutte le immagini dell'apparato iconografico dei volumi pubblicati tra il 1949 e il 1953; ne ricordiamo alcuni che Vittorini scelse e amò moltissimo (Le commedie di Carlo Goldoni, l'Orlando Furioso di Ludovico Ariosto, il Decamerone di Boccaccio e le Mille e una notte), come testimoniano le innumerevoli lettere in cui parla del lavoro sulle immagini; un lavoro che lo appassionava e in cui esibiva una vasta cultura pittorica e una sapiente regia comunicativa.
