Esteta, drammaturgo, poeta e romanziere, Wilde inizia a scrivere lettere quando, giovane talentuoso, frequenta uno dei più esclusivi college del paese; in seguito, è alle parole rivolte agli amici che affida l'ascesa vertiginosa del proprio astro - cene, feste, prime teatrali, articoli sui giornali - e il turbine rapinoso di scandali e polemiche che lo avvolge nel 1889, con l'uscita del "Ritratto di Dorian Gray" e l'incontro con Lord Alfred Douglas, il famigerato Bosie.
