Jahrhunderts auf Spurensuche. Bislang differierten die Zuschreibungen des Monogramms A.W.IN.F. zwischen Abraham Willemssens und anderen Malern, wie z. B. Artus Wolffort, Abraham Willaerts, Adam Willaerts, Adriaen Willenhoudt und Antoni Willemssens. Die Aufzeichnungen der Antwerpener Kunsth ndler Musson und Forchondt belegen aber, dass zumindest vier Mitglieder der Familie Willemssens als Maler f r sie t tig waren: Abraham, Antoni, Angela, Gilliam Willemssens. Eine Werkstatt bestehend aus den Mitgliedern einer Familie, die mit einem Werkstattmonogramm zeichnete?! Bei den Inhalten der Gem lde dieser Werkstatt handelte es sich vorwiegend um religi se Themen, dem Vorbild der Gem lde der gro en Antwerpener Meister nachempfunden, die ins europ ische Ausland vorwiegend nach Paris zu dem Kunsth ndler M. Picard, nach Spanien und ins spanische Amerika ausgef hrt wurden. Dem Autor gelingt es, durch statistische Aufarbeitung der Kunstinventare, den Antwerpener Kunsthandel des 17.Jahrhunderts am Beispiel des Malers Abraham Willemssens und seiner Werkstatt neu zu beleuchten. ----- The content of the paintings in this workshop was predominantly religious themes, modelled on the paintings of the great Antwerp masters, which were exported to other European countries, mainly to the art dealer M. Het (Vlaamse) expressionisme en het animisme dat vele van zijn tijdgenoten aanhingen, wees hij resoluut van hand. Hij ging op zoek naar een eigen realistische vormentaal. Zijn benadering sluit aan bij de fenomenologie, waarbij waarneming leidt tot authentieke subjectieve ervaring. Zijn monumentalisme, ge nspireerd door Rubens, weerspiegelt zijn humanistische overtuigingen. Vanaf de Tweede Wereldoorlog begon hij onder invloed van schilders als Kandinsky, Picasso en Juan Gris werken te maken die al bijna abstract te noemen zijn. Vanaf 1951 werkte hij tijdelijk in het Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Tijdens het opbouwen van een tentoonstelling over De Stijl in dat museum zag Ongenae voor het eerst werk van Mondriaan. Zijn werk kreeg vanaf dat moment steeds minder kleur en het werd meer en meer gestileerder. Vanaf de jaren 60 ontwikkelde Ongenae een meer eigen stijl door met gekleurde rechthoeken een zekere dynamiek aan zijn composities te geven. Nach seinem Jurajahr an der Universit libre de Bruxelles nahm er von 1876 bis 1879 zusammen mit James Ensor Zeichenunterricht an der Akademie der Sch nen K nste in Br ssel. Fernand Khnopffs Lieblingsthemen sind narzisstische Selbstbeobachtung, Schlaf, sexuelle Identit t, Stille, Einsamkeit und entfremdende Landschaften. Er transzendiert die Realit t und versucht, die Vielzahl der Sinne zu erfassen. Seine Arbeit ist eher geheimnisvoll und symbolisch als real. Der K nstler malt eine fremde Welt, bev lkert von Androgynen, versteinerten St dten und stillen Frauen. Nicht zu vergessen ist seine enge Verbundenheit mit den anderen K nsten, insbesondere der Literatur, die auch bei anderen Symbolisten besteht. Zwei Arten von Frauen pr gen sein Werk: die Sphinx und der Engel. Manchmal sehen wir sie umgeben von Symbolen, manchmal als k rperloses Wesen, das durch den Raum der Erinnerung schwebt. Sie ist introvertiert und den Tr umen hingegeben. Das Aussehen der Frauen in seinen Gem lden ist sehr wichtig. Es ist ein leerer, unertr glicher Blick, der an den Tod erinnert, ins Leere blickt, an eine andere Welt erinnert. 1883 war er Mitbegr nder der Br sseler Avantgarde-Bewegung Les Vingt, f r die er das Monogramm malte. Beeinflusst von den Pr raffaeliten und insbesondere von Edward Burne-Jones besuchte Khnopff die ersten Rosenkreuzer-Salons, die ab 1892 von S r P ladan organisiert wurden. Er entwarf das Titelbild der meisten Werke des Rosenkreuzer-Magiers. 1891 stellte er in England aus und traf in London die Pr raffaeliten. Au erdem ver ffentlicht er Rezensionen und Kommentare zu belgischen K nstlern und Ausstellungen in der Zeitschrift The Studio. Auf der Ausstellung der Wiener Secession 1898 machte er sich auch international einen Namen. Der ?Maler der geschlossenen Augenlider? beeinflusste wiederum K nstler wie Edvard Munch oder Gustav Klimt. ISBN 9789090271361.‎ ‎Dat grafiek de jongste decennia in het verdomhoekje is geraakt, is een betreurenswaardige evolutie die sommige museumdirecteuren en beleidsmakers in Vlaanderen mee in de hand hebben gewerkt. Gelukkig zijn er ook mensen met een bredere kijk, bijvoorbeeld bij de stad Brugge die een schitterende collectie aankocht, een overzicht van de prentkunst vanaf de zestiende tot en met de twintigste eeuw. De miskenning van de grafiek is vooral veroorzaakt door de kortzichtigheid van enkele invloedrijke mensen uit het wereldje die vinden ?dat het toch maar om prenten gaat? en dat ?origineel werk voorrang verdient?. Een aantal hogere kunstscholen heeft de grafiek als een ars minor afgebouwd en hun studenten dienen zich verder te bekwamen door les te gaan volgen in het Deeltijds Kunstonderwijs. De Vlaamse grafiek kent nochtans ook vandaag meesters die in vele internationale museumcollecties te bewonderen zijn. Kunstenaars als Enk De Kramer ( 1946) en Veerle Rooms ( 1947) worden in Japan hoog gewaardeerd.
