In 1925 he became director of the Berlin Palestine Office and, after two visits to Palestine between 1924 and 1933, settled there in 1934. He became managing director of the Palestine Office and of the Zionist Federation in Germany (192933) . From 1934 to 1954 Landauer was director of the Jewish Agency Central Bureau for the Settlement of German Jews, in which his main activities were the organization of aliyah, capital transfer, agricultural settlement, Youth Aliyah , and German reparations. London England: E. Gambart & Co. 1848. First Edition . Half-Leather. Good Minus. Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall. Landseer Edwin. Landseer Sir Edwin Henry 1802- 73. India paper etchings by Landseer England's most famous animal painter/etcher. A number of the etchings are signed initialled by the artist. "Proof before the number at top right hand corner." Lacking a title page or text pages. Undoubtedly a first edition by Gambart no date stated but published in 1848. This marks the first time when these prints were published in collated form by anyone. No limitation statement but Allibone states that 100 copies issued in 1848. Contemporary medium brown half leather with boards of marbled paper. Hubbed spine with gilt-stamped title. The binding is quite worn there are large losses at the spine head and tail and the joints are split. A.E.G. Volume about 19 x 13 inches and containing 17 copper-plate etchings by Landseer. The prints were created between 1822 and 1826 and all were etched by the artist himself. Quite a few Landseer prints were etched lithographed or engraved by others. Landseer the artist's father. These are etchings pulled on India paper using the chine-collé process to bond the etchings on to thick heavy under-sheets. As to most plates a warm beige background color behind the image. Each sheet 48 x 32 cm. Most sheets with the Gambart blind-stamp in the lower margin. All sheets with tissue guards. The sheet margins are all quite foxed but as to the impressions themselves many of the images have scant foxing perhaps on account of the putative overlay. A few of the images with moderate to pronounced foxing especially N 1. Mounted to the front FEP is a handwritten note "This beautiful Series of Etchings by Mr. Edwin Landseer the great painter of Animal Life were etched by him nearly Thirty years since. Single impressions before their publication for sale in 1848 have been sold for eight and even ten guineas each so highly were they prized. Few impressions having been taken from the plates previously to publication rendered them highly prized curiosities to Amateurs." No doubt Landseer pulled etchings from the copper plates between the time of making each copper plate and 1848 the first publication year. Quantity and distribution unknown but believed quite limited. Though etchings by Landseer are far from numerous the engravings and etchings after his works are otherwise. It became the fashion in the second half of the 19th century to collect these. An interesting association copy. Front pastedown with the handsome armorial bookplate of John Rushout 2nd Baron Northwick 1770-1859. Lord Northwick was an English peer a prominent landowner and a collector of art works. Exceptional PS 12" X 10" image area 8" X 5½" n.p. 1926. Very good. Minor surface soiling. Instead of the usual image of Lang as Jesus looking beatific this striking oblong shot depicts a pensive Lang at a potter's wheel and is captioned in German "Oberammergau: Anton Lang in His Ceramic Workshop." Lang signs boldly in a light area at the lower left of the image area and in a somewhat darker area at the lower right adds "Christ / 1900-10-22. / 1926." Small signed photos of Lang are routine but large and unusual poses such as this are quite scarce. Superb and unusual. unknown

An den französischen Schauspieler Marcel André mit Dank für Wünsche zu Weihnacht und Neujahr - "[...] momentan reisst es mich um - bin trotzdem 'unbefriedigt' spiele eine alte tratschende Lateinprofessorin - hatte damit Riesenerfolg [...]". - Lotte Lang war nach dem Besuch der Handelsakademie und der Wiener Lehrerinnenbildungsanstalt zeitweise als Sekretärin von Julius Wagner von Jauregg und als pharmazeutische Assistentin tätig, wandte sich dann jedoch der Bühne zu und debütierte nach kurzem Schauspielunterricht am Stadttheater in Linz und trat dann in Hamburg, Brünn und an den Kammerspielen in München auf, bevor sie nach Wien zurückkehrte. 1932 war sie am Volkstheater, dann am Raimundtheater engagiert. Am Theater in der Josefstadt, wo sie die "Urwienerin" verkörperte, war Lotte Lang bis 1955 als Charakterkomikerin Ensemblemitglied. Daneben übernahm sie zahlreiche Filmrollen, war u. a. Partnerin von Hans Albers in "Ein Mädchen geht an Land" (1938) und spielte neben Hans Moser und Theo Lingen in "Es schlägt dreizehn". Eine ihrer letzten Rollen hatte sie in Maximilian Schells Verfilmung der "Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald".

Behalten Sie in Ihrem Andenken Ihren Sie gewiß liebenden Freund". - Der vielseitige Lange, einer der bedeutendsten Schauspieler seiner Zeit, ist der Maler des wahrscheinlich populärsten Bildes seines Schwagers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, das vermutlich 1782/83 entstand und - wie der Musikwissenschaftler Michael Lorenz 2009 erkannte - ursprünglich auf einem Format von 19:15 cm nur Mozarts Kopf zeigte (wahrscheinlich 1789 wurde mit einer Vergrößerung des kleinen Portraits begonnen, die Mozarts Oberkörper und ein Klavier hinzufügen sollte, aber nie vollendet wurde). Mit seiner Frau, der Sängerin Maria Aloysia (geb. Weber), trat Lange 1789 in Hamburg und Berlin auf. - Einem Stammbuch entnommen, oben links numeriert "44". Auf der ansonsten leeren Verso- (eigentlich: Recto-)seite ("43") Bleistiftvermerk des 19. Jhs.: "Schauspieler in Wien".

Nach seiner Rückkehr kurze Zeit im Münchner Ensemble verpflichtet, kam er 1889 an das neugegründete Volkstheater nach Wien; später Schauspieler und Regisseur am Raimundtheater, war er seit 1897 am Theater an der Wien tätig und übernahm 1900 dessen Leitung. Mit Oskar Fronz gründete er das Wiener Bürgertheater. Als "gefeierter Charakterkomiker" (DBE) hatte er seine größten Erfolge in den Stücken Ludwig Anzengrubers.

Author Langner has an impeccable pedigree in the theater, having founded the Theater Guild and the American Shakespeare Festival. With his wife he started the respected Westport Country Playhouse and in 1958, won a Tony award for Sunrise at Campobello. In this book, each and every page is full of useful advice to the playwright, although the author rather disdains the recent 'realism' of the theater.
