XI. 1932). - “Nun werde ich den Sommer wahrscheinlich in Italien zur Erholung sein - und nur wegen 2 Abenden Karlsbad nach der Tschechoslovakai zu fahren, würde sich nicht gut lohnen [...]” (Br. v. 16. V. 1933). - 1921 mit dem Regisseur Ernst Matray, den sie 1927 heiratete, als Tänzerin in einer von ihm inszenierten Pantomime auf Tournee gehend, wandte sich die junge Künstlerin der Schauspielerei zu, war am Großen Schauspielhaus und an den Barnowsky-Bühnen in Berlin zu sehen und übernahm auch erste Filmrollen. 1933 emigrierte sie zusammen mit ihrem Mann über Frankreich und Großbritannien in die USA, arbeitete als Regie- und Produktionsassistentin Max Reinhardts in New York und Los Angeles und war von 1939-44 zusammen mit Ernst Matray als Choreographin für Tanz- und Revueszenen in zahlreichen Filmen tätig. 1953 nach Deutschland zurückgekehrt, schrieb sie in Zusammenarbeit mit Answald Krüger Drehbücher zu Filmen wie ‘Die schöne Lügnerin’ (1959). Für den NWDR - den Vorläufer des NDR - war das Duo für die ersten eigenproduzierten ZDF-Serien ‘Das Kriminalmuseum’ und ‘Die fünfte Kolonne’ tätig, in den siebziger Jahren gestaltete es die erste Staffel der NDR-Serie ‘Sonderdezernat K1’, aus der später die Reihe ‘Die Männer vom K3’ hervorging. Szene): "Verachtet mir die Meister nicht und ehrt mir ihre Kunst; dann bannt ihr gute Geister". - Der aus Klagenfurt stammende Sänger war seit 1881 Mitglied der Wiener Hofoper, wo er bis November des Jahres die Partie des Fritz Kothner sang; in einer späteren Inszenierung, die dort von 1889 bis 1892 gegeben wurde, sang er die des Hans Sachs. "1893 verließ er Wien aufgrund von Differenzen mit der Generalintendanz, ging auf Tournee und 1895 nach Breslau (Wroclaw/PL). 1898 trat er in Hamburg, Dresden und München auf. Eine schwere Krankheit zwang ihn, seine Laufbahn zu beenden" (Oesterr. Musiklexikon online). Im Oktober 1900 verstarb Sommer in Bleiburg (Kärnten).

Contemp. red half calf with blindstamped cover borders and giltstamped title to cover and spine. Fine original selection of Sommer's legendary views of Campania which have fascinated tourists of Southern Italy since the late 19th century. "Giorgio Sommer (1834-1914) was one of the pioneers who reintroduced antiquity to the world through his work. A native German, he moved to Naples in 1857 to open a studio where he sold photographs of ancient ruins at Pompeii and other sites, ongoing excavations, recovered artifacts, and other images from the Bay of Naples" (National Gallery of Art, Washington DC). Among the ten views of Pompeii are a panorama, the House of the Faun, the amphitheatre, frescoes and casts of the victims of the Vesuvius eruption in the year 79. 15 views show Naples (panoramas, the chapel of Sansevero, the Teatro San Carlo, Via Partenope, Piazza Vittoria, Posillipo, etc.). Other photographs show Pozzuoli (Serapeion, amphitheatre), Bacoli, Salerno, Castellamare di Stabia, the cliffs of Sorrento, the Neptune temple at Paestum, the 1872 eruption of Mt. Vesuivius, and local Neapolitans. - Spine and corners bumped; binding loosened; some slight interior staining.

Theater in Budapest sowie 1885-87 am Carl-Theater in Wien. Ab 1887 gehörte er dem Wiener Hofburgtheater an. Als vielbeschäftigtes und sehr verwendbares Mitglied verkörperte Sommer zwar meist nur kleine Rollen wie Diener und Kleinbürger (u. a. Soest in Goethes "Egmont", Weiler in Otto Ludwigs "Der Erbförster"), war jedoch auch als Weiring in Schnitzlers (s. d.) "Liebelei" erfolgreich.
