Original embossed brown cloth covers. 203 pages. 18 engravings including frontispiece depicting "Adam and Eve in the Garden" "The Prodigal Son" "Samson Killing A Lion" "Christ's Agony in the Garden" "Moses in the Bullrushes" "John the Baptist" and more. Miniature 'thumb bibles' such as this one were abridged versions of the Bible intended for children and decorated with pictures. Only four libraries in the world hold this edition per OCLC Worldcat's records. Pencil ownership inscription on front pastedown reading "Sallie Hitch's Book Presented By Her Father". Sallie practices her name on the rear endpaper and leaves a small pencil doodle. Textblock tight though front hinge has separated from the textblock. Covers whole. Faint titles to spine. Pages occasionally creased and slightly toned but overall clean and attractive. An interesting beautifully illustrated volume in good condition. unknown books

Marcotte & Co . everything made to perfect scale . sold to L.C. who refused it . Re-sold to the women's prisoners of the Insane Asylum at Philadelphia where the poor women when 'good' are allowed to play with it." Unrecorded in OCLC we assume this was printed for private distribution by a member of the Bacon or Howland family. The model fairy house and furniture was possibly made for the New York Metropolitan Fair of 1864 preparations for which are mentioned often in the collected family letters. Unrecorded in OCLC C.O. Bound in pictorial gilt decorated blue cloth depicting the sun and stars amidst highly stylized gilt title. a.e.g. 70mm x 80mm. First Edition. Illustrated throughout with chromolithographic floral vignettes en texte. Printed at Nuremberg by E. Nister. A delicate brilliantly executed example of late 19th century miniature book design this title presents biblical quotations in a devotional format- with one phrase for each morning and evening of a month. Lovely chromolithographs are interspersed throughout the text. This title is exceptionally rare with OCLC listing no libraries possessing a copy of it. Indeed OCLC lists the only known copy as being in the collection of famed miniature book collector Ruth E. Adomeit. Front cover a bit rubbed and darkened with gilt decoration somewhat dulled. Like condition affecting gilded edges. Previous owner's pencil gift inscription to verso of front free endsheet. Sporadic light foxing throughout. Boards ruled in gilt spine stamped in gilt. First five leaves lacking outer corner somewhat affecting text. Good. With a biblical verse for everyday of the year including February 29th. "The smallest series of Bible selections for every day of the year is entitled Small Rain Upon the Tener Herb. This title like Dew Drops is taken from Deuteronomy 32:2 and is itself an extract from the full text which is: 'My doctrine shall drop as the rain My speech shall distil as the dew; As the small rain upon the tender grass And as the showers upon the herb.' Small Rain was first published about 1830 by our friends the Religious Tract Society in London. It is one of the commonest miniature books of the period and went through some twenty editions between 1830 and 1840. Most copies measure 1 1/4 by 1 inches consist of 128 pages with easily readable six-point type. Smaller than Dew Drops and Daily Food ths devotional morsel was mainly for children."
