Monographie über die Roßau, die bis 1850 eine eigenständige Gemeinde war und heute ein Stadtteil des 9. Wiener Gemeindebezirks Alsergrund ist. - Die Abbildungen zeigen 'Kirche und Kloster der Serviten in der Rossau', 'Rabenstein in der Rossau' und eine 'Landfahrt der Schiffknechte im Jahre 1767'. - Autor war der Beamte und heimatkundliche Schriftsteller Karl Hofbauer (1829-1871). Dieser widmete seine Freizeit der Topographie und Geschichte der Stadt Wien. Er beabsichtigte, die von Schimmer mit der Häuserchronik der Inneren Stadt begonnene Arbeit für alle damaligen Vorstädte und Vororte fortzusetzen, konnte jedoch krankheitshalber nur die Arbeiten über die Wieden, die Alservorstadt und die Rossau vollenden. Seine Werke zeichnen sich durch intensive Heranziehung archival. Quellen, vor allem der Grundbücher, aus, sie sind bis heute grundlegend geblieben. (vgl. ÖBL II,371).
