First and only French edition of this scarce book on social topography of Beyoglu (Pera) in the 19th century, written by Said Naum Duhani who was a Christian Arab and the son of Naum Pasha (1850-1911), an Ottoman statesman in Syrian Arab origin, the governor of Cebel-i Lübnan Mutasarrifate, ambassador of Paris. "This is an invaluable source on Levantine, Greek, Armenian and Jewish people and their buildings at two main streets of 'Francophone Beyoglu'" (Çeliksoy).
