‎br. Un racconto sui misteri dei ghiacciai e su cosa significa la loro imminente scomparsa per il nostro futuro. Con i primi passi sul ghiaccio si crea un legame. Indipendentemente dal numero di ghiacciai che un glaciologo può aver calcato, la sensazione è sempre vivida: lo scricchiolio quando la fragile crosta della superficie si frantuma sotto i piedi, la sensazione ipnotizzante di camminare su un blocco di ghiaccio mobile. Il senso di mistero e di pericolo non si affievoliscono mai. Ma le calotte polari e i ghiacciai che coprono circa un decimo della superficie terrestre sono fortemente a rischio. Sulle Alpi, sulle Ande, sull'Himalaya, ghiacciai un tempo indomabili oggi si stanno ritirando, addirittura morendo. In Antartide, il loro assottigliamento potrebbe sbloccare grandi quantità di metano immagazzinate per milioni di anni in profondità con conseguenze pesantissime per l'umanità intera. Partendo da questo scenario allarmante, la glaciologa di fama mondiale Jemma Wadham ci racconta in prima persona la crisi che sta coinvolgendo il mondo dei ghiacci, una situazione con cui tutti saremo chiamati a fare i conti a breve.
