SCARAMOUCHE 1923 Photoplay Inscibed By Both Stars Ramon Novarro & Alice Terry
New York: Grosset & Dunlap 1923. Sabatini Rafael. SCARAMOUCHE. New York: Grosset & Dunlap 1923. Photoplay Edition released in tandem with the 1923 Rex Ingram- Metro Silent Film. A Good firm copy in the primary red cloth binding with spine gilt dulled and a prominent discolored stripe on the back cover which although unfortunate shouldn't be a deal breaker as this copy is INSCRIBED BY THE TWO STARS of the film ROMAN NOVARRO and ALICE TERRY and is likely unique thus. In a Very Good slightly browned dust jacket. WITH: a signed typed letter w/ original mailing envelope from Roman Novarro to Art Ronnie a noted studio publicist who later became a TV critic for the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner. This is from Ronnie's collection bookplate. Novarro's letter touches on several points of interest. Inscribed photoplays are exceedingly rare. Possibly a unique opportunity for the collector. SCARAMOUCHE is generally considered one of Sabatini's greatest novels and the film is still considered with its cast of thousands among the great classic silent films. Signed. First Photoplay Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Very Good. Grosset & Dunlap Hardcover books

The Black Swan
Boston/New York: Houghton Mifflin Company. Very Good. c.1932. Later Printing. Hardcover. no dust jacket a good solid copy spine very slightly turned lightly shelfworn with a teensy-tiny tear in the cloth at the top of the spine; ex-Twentieth Century-Fox Research Library copy with related rubber-stamps on title page both endpapers and pastedowns. Pirate adventure yarn adapted into a swashbuckling 1942 movie starring Tyrone Power and Maureen O'Hara. Although this copy was once part of the research library at Twentieth Century-Fox the studio that made the film there's no evidence to indicate that this particular book played any active role in its creation it was after all only "copy 3" -- but on the other hand I don't think it's at all unlikely that the book was at one time mere hundreds maybe only dozens of yards away from Tyrone Power and/or Maureen O'Hara. Or both! . Houghton Mifflin Company hardcover books

Boston: Houghton Mifflin 1925. First U.S. edition. 1 vols. 8vo. Original black cloth fine. Dust jacket near fine slightly bumped corners minor chipping at head and foot of spine. First U.S. edition. 1 vols. 8vo. American Revolutionary intrigue: a rare Sabatini setting. First American edition. Precedence is unclear between this edition and the London edition published by Hutchinson which is undated.

Rafael Sabatini 1875-1950 is today best known for his novel Captain Blood. His Italian father and English mother were both well-known opera singers and Sabatini took up writing after a brief stint in the business world.

The Carolinian shares many aspects of Sabatini's other novels: an action-packed plot adventure romance and acts of grand heroism. 1917. London: Martin Secker n.d.1917. 8 pp undated ads. Original grey paper-covered boards with brown cloth spine and printed spine label. First Edition. This was the first of Sabatini's three series of fictionalized historical events -- followed by other series in 1919 and in 1938. The thirteen episodes all have "The Night of." titles -- specifically: ".Holyrood" ".Kirk o' Field" ".Betrayal" ".Charity" ".Massacre" ".Witchcraft" ".Gems" ".Terror" ".Nuptials" ".Stranglers" ".Hate" ".Escape" and ".Masquerade." In his Preface Sabatini says he chose "more or less famous events. which were in themselves bizarre and resulting from the interplay of human passions." This is a near-fine copy top edge of spine label scuffed away barely affecting the first word of the title.
