Reprint sixteenmo size 71 pp. This collection of poems by Agness Greene Foster was printed by the Tomoye Press an imprint associated with Paul Elder & Company a notable bookstore in San Francisco run by Paul Elder who also published his own books. The Tomoye Press was Elder's collaboration with the eminent typographer and printer John Henry Nash 1871-1947 whose standards of quality were second to none. This volume is a careful execution of Foster's seasonal poetry featuring Nash's excellent typesetting and decorations by Will Jenkins.<br /> <br /> ___DESCRIPTION: Full mauve paper with pink lettering and decorations on the front board fore- and bottom edges uncut purple endpapers frontispiece a reproduction of an illustration titled "My Lady's Garden" by J. Engraved stainless-steel plate showing Mishima's face mounted on black paper preceding the title page.<br /> <br /> The deluxe and lavishly printed new bilingual edition of the acclaimed and eroticly-charged work also know as "Killed by Roses" by Japanese photographer Eikoh Hosoe b.1933. It gained notoriety and elicited controversy when it was originally released in 1963 and won the Japan Photo Critics Association's writer award. The main photographic subject of the book the acclaimed and controversial writer Yukio Mishima 1925-1970 wrote the preface to the original edition and also writes the preface for this new edition both are included here. Mishima's acclaimed works include the famous and controversial novels "Confessions of a Mask" 1949 and "The Temple of the Golden Pavilion" 1956. Hosoe's striking high-contrast b/w photographs are all printed in high-quality photogravure retaining all the power and atmosphere of his original images. In comparison with the first version of the work this edition features the content having been noticeably re-edited with one image added a few others removed. The images have been thematically re-organized into five new chapters with the names "Sea & Eyes" "Eyes & Sins" "Sins & Dreams" "Dreams & Death" and "Death" respectively. An invitation to the “Recooperation Baths†which seems to be an annual get-together for Cooper Union alumni. Cooper Union was founded in 1859 by business magnate Peter Cooper to offer a tuition-free education in practical areas such as architectural drawing shorthand and the like. No longer free Cooper Union now consists of three schools: art architecture and engineering. Graphic designer Lou Dorfsman 1918–2008 who inscribed this poster with a message for “Sam†graduated from Cooper Union in 1939. He would serve on its board of directors and as this poster states on its Alumni Committee. More famously Dorfsman was the art director and later creative director at CBS where he designed not just programming advertisements but also sets and the CBS headquarters’ interior. The poster promises alumni “an evening of gayety jollity merriment entertainment swimming dancing drinking dining†at the Woolworth Building in Tribeca – probably at its private basement swimming pool. unknown

Excellent condition overall with some toning small chips and various wear to margins but overall quite well preserved. Near Fine. Isabel and Monroe Smith a married couple from Northfield Massachusetts started the American Youth Hostel movement in 1933 after gaining inspiration from Richard Schirrman’s German Hosteling Organization. The movement grew quickly with thirty hostels operating throughout New England within the first year. The first hostel was the Northfield Chateau a large mansion on Birnham Road that was eventually demolished in 1963. The network of chaperoned hostels created the opportunity for safe bicycle-based travel as shown in the posters offered here. <br /> <br /> Offered here are three early posters from the movement designed by Isabel Smith each with her signature in the image. All posters are variations on the cycling theme. One of them states that “When the grand day’s bicycling is done… no fare can compare with the Royal ‘Hostellers’ Own.†Smith’s design aesthetic is quite accomplished and we are surprised to find no examples of these in institutional collections.
