The film was produced by Cinetel but here is credited to publicity manager G. de Boissiere with their cute cat logo. <br /> <br /> Unseen noir based on Patrick Quentin's 1955 novel "The Man with Two Wives" released in France as "La Verite du Mensonge." Pierre Pascal witnesses a murder while with his wife Madeleine Girardot the decease being a photographer who snapped some lurid photos of Pierre's sister-in-law Daphne Parisy. Pierre gives Daphne a false alibi and the police discover the photographer was Madeleine's lover. <br /> <br /> 22 leaves printed rectos a few corner-stapled on "DEB de Boissiere parchment mimeograph duplication. Numerical annotations on the verso of nearly all photos in manuscript pencil several cropped contact sheets mounted on larger sheets. Housed in a vintage French Kodak brand photo paper box with most contact sheets in a two-ring binder similar to keybook photos. Also included is a press folder from the Cinedis agency in Paris with star biographies film credits and scenario on Cinedis parchment. <br /> <br /> Seen in the images is starring actor and screenwriter Buissieres including a large portrait actress Carrel several seductive in nature with shots of director Faurez and the film crew in action and images of composer Georges Van Parys and singer Colette Renard famous for her "Irma La Douce" musical roles presumably working on the film soundtrack. Several images in the contact sheets show scenes from the film taking place in an automobile repair shop directed scenes from high on a crane and candid photos of the starring performers. A few of the contact sheets bear credits for the Laboratoire Tele-Photo film title client Cinedis and photographer. ` <br /> <br /> Little known gangster drama about a woman and her child caught in the downward spiral of prostitution. <br /> <br /> Photos vary in size from 3 x 4.5 inches to 9.25 x 11.75 inches with most being smaller. Set in 1890s Paris Henri Danglard Gabin is the owner of a cafe where his mistress Lola Felix performs as a belly dancer. With the cafe nearly bankrupt Henri inspired by an old-fashioned cancan in Montmartre decides to add a new dancer to revive his business. Cue a laundress named Nini Arnoul who soon finds fame at the Moulin Rouge. <br /> <br /> François Truffaut's review in "Arts" magazine May 1955 was highly supportive even though other critics like Bernard Chardere criticised the music the sets even the final cancan scene.
