‎Culver City: Vanguard Films Inc. 1946. 1124 leaves. Quarto. Mimeographed typescript printed on rectos only. Bradbound with lower wrapper but upper wrapper absent. Very good. A studio rerun of an unspecified draft of this early unproduced adaptation to the screen of Hichens' 1933 novel reproduced as a prelude to the process which culminated in the 1947 Selznick production directed by Alfred Hitchcock. According to one source Selznick had acquired the film rights to the novel prior to its publication but submission of preliminary scripts to the Breen Office resulted in assurances that it would not pass muster according to the PCA. So the project was shelved until a decade later. Vanguard Films, Inc. unknown books‎

‎Hilton James sourcework: Rattigan Terence screenwriter‎

‎GOODBYE MR. CHIPS‎

‎Beverly Hills: Metro Goldwyn Mayer / APJAC Productions 1968. 2149a1 leaves plus a multitude of lettered inserts. Quarto. Mechanically duplicated typescript printed on rectos only. Bradbound in pale blue printed studio wrappers. Wrappers faintly sunned at edges with a couple of tiny chips and snags at edges but a very good or better copy. A "Final Shooting Script" for Herbert Ross's film reboot of Hilton's novella and subsequent play based on a screenplay by Terrence Rattigan R.C. Sherriff co-scripted the 1939 adaptation. Peter O'Toole starred as Mr. Chips and Petula Clark as his wife in a sort of stream of consciousness musical. The supporting cast included Siân Phillips and Michael Redgrave. The text of this script was duplicated in the UK where the production was filmed with an Odanti Script duplicating service colophon. As would be customary copies were then transferred to the studio in the US -- the printed wrappers on this example conform to the MGM U.S. style. In spite of some harsh reviews the film was nominated for numerous industry awards in multiple categories. O'Toole was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor and won the equivalent for the Golden Globes. Metro Goldwyn Mayer / APJAC Productions unknown books‎

‎Culver City CA: RKO Radio Pictures 1938. Vintage double weight photograph of Katharine Hepburn Howard Hawks and a resting Cary Grant on the set of the 1938 film. <br /> <br /> One of the foundational entries in the canon of American screwball comedies. Based on the short story by Hagar Wilde which originally appeared in Collier's Weekly magazine on April 10 1937.<br /> <br /> Zoologist David Huxley Grant develops a wary interest in the niece of dowager Mrs. Carelton Random Hepburn which as in all great screwball comedies is not finalized as a romance until about the last ten seconds of the film. But what makes this film singular is that the story is built around the maintenance aspects of raising a pet leopard creating a rapid-fire blur of events and dialogue that doesn't let up for the entire 102-minute running time. The film bombed upon release causing RKO to drop both of the stars but today ranks as one of the best films made by either. <br /> <br /> 8 x 10 inches.
