Culver City: Columbia Pictures 1953. Vintage pictorial color lithographed three- sheet 40.5 x 78" in two folded panels as issued. Usual title stamp on verso faintly ghosted to recto with NSS blindstamp in extreme lower blank margin; a few very minor breaks at intersections of folds otherwise an unusually nice example near fine. A superb three-sheet for the sole feature film written by Dr. Seuss including the song lyrics at the time something of a critical and financial failure but revered by subsequent generations of film viewers as a remarkable melding of almost surreal sensibility and imagery and an exceptional undertaking in set design. The film was directed by Roy Rowland with contributions by producer Stanley Kramer and Allan Scott received co-credit for the screenplay. Peter Lynd Hayes Mary Healy Hans Conried and Tommy Rettig starred. Geisel was disappointed with the end product never undertook another piece of original feature film work and omitted mention of this project from his Random House bio. INSCRIBED by Kate Simon in holograph ink on the verso of the last page of text. <br/><br/>Simon was "a friend of Alex Cox's and she helped him vis a vis the fine details of the 'time of the Sex Pistols' in London in 1976 / To that end she showed him in London the pub where we hung out took sulphate the Roebuck and she also tried to set up a meeting with him and Johnny Thunders / Finally she is thanked at the end of 'Sid and Nancy' and she photographed him as he was writing the script there at the room in the Chelsea Hotel where Sid and Nancy lived / Kate Simon / 4-8-09." <br/><br/>Brilliant but gritty biographical look at Sid Vicious Oldman bassist for the British punk band Sex Pistols and his girlfriend Nancy Webb. Their relationship is sprinkled with guilt sympathy and copious drug use implying Nancy introduced Sid to heroin when she traveled to London to have sex with the Sex Pistols. The two fall in love commit to a suicide pact and try to start a new solo career in New York after the breakup of the band. One night in a drug-induced stupor Sid announces his intention to quit heroin and move back to London prompting a suicidal Nancy to beg him to kill her. Perhaps unintentionally perhaps not Sid stabs Nancy and she dies in the bathroom. <br/><br/>Set in London and New York shot there on location and in New Jersey California and France. Ralph Fiennes starred and directed in company with Gerard Butler Brian Cox Vanessa Redgrave Lubna Azabal and many others. Sixteen Original Publicity Stills for: PYGMALION
Culver City: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer 1938. 16pp. Sixteen original 8 x 10" b & w stills. One has reproduction scaling notes on verso and in margin as well as signs of mounting tabs and an agency stamp a few others bear pencil annotations on versos but otherwise very good to near fine. An unusually large and representative collection of the publicity stills released to promote the US release of the 1938 British film adaptation of Shaw's play starring Leslie Howard and Wendy Hiller directed by Howard and Anthony Asquith. All but one have a printed descriptive squib either printed or mounted on the verso and the exception has lost its former squib. Shaw participated in the writing of the scenario which resulted in his receipt of an Oscar and his controversial response. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer unknown books
