Finding a friend in Mr. Gregory Chester Conklin a retired cameraman Agnus proposes making a movie with the residents as actors to unite them and stop their petty bickering. Using a camera with no film and a cucumber made up to look like a microphone Agnus plan succeeds. A romanticized swashbuckling account of the adventures and loves of Italian explorer Christopher Columbus here re-imagined as the Spanish "Cristobal Colon" from Castile. Delays in the production of the film led Sabatini to turn his early screenplay into a novel first published by Hutchinson in 1941.
