From the author's introduction: "The first vestiges of Christ's Church sketched in the Acts of the Apostles by the inspired historian St. Luke trace the Catholic religion as taught today that is to say the sacramental and hierarchical system of the Church in the liturgy and the institutions of her religious community life. To illustrate this fact from accredited sources of tradition without entering into didactic argument and scientific expostions is the object of The House of Martha a Bethany." The library markings none of which are external are stamps on the front end papers and an inked note on the title page. Previous owner's name also stamped on the front free end paper. Minor wear to the fore corners of the boards and the spine tips the spine is a tad faded otherwise clean with a sound binding. A clear and removable archival cover has been fitted. . Previous owner's pen marks on front and rear free endpapers. Pp. 529-544 loose and laid in. Several items of German Catholic ephemera such as prayer cards are laid in. This is a collection of theological writings by 17th-century ascetic Martin of Cochem. Judging by the ephemera which was found in this book and included in this sale this copy was in regular use from publication until at least 1986. The brass borders and clasp were added at some point presumably to prevent warping to covers. A fascinating if flawed copy. Steinbrener unknown
