First published in 1917 the book quickly went through 9 printings in 10 years and was then republished revised and partially rewritten by St. Anthony's Guild in 1939 this being the second printing of that later edition. A collection of 27 letters from a priest to his nephew. At the time of republication Fr. Kelley was the bishop of Oklahoma City and Tulsa and Jack was a serious family man in his 40's. God truly does have time on His side. The book shows mild wear to the externals the spine is a tad faded small inked note on the head margin of page 65 otherwise the interior is clean and the binding is tight. Decorated gilt cross stamped on the front. All text block edges are gilt and gauffered - stamped leaf/flower/vine motif with hand painted flowers and leaves. The recto of the front free end paper and the verso of the back free end paper are overlaid with a moir�-ed silk cloth as issued. The front end paper is also stamped with a gilt liturgical symbol. Two white silk ribbon book markers set into the headband. The title continued: ". . . A simplified arrangement of praying the Mass on all Sundays and Feast Days . . ." The Latin - English sections are printed with Latin on the left hand page and the English equivalent on the right. These parts are rubricated and illustrated with small insets within the text. Also illustrated with many full page colour plates. The celluloid covers do not lie perfectly flat which is to be expected as the material does tend to bend slightly with time and changing conditions. Not a serious defect though it should be noted. Otherwise the missal shows very little if any signs of use and I would surmise that this missal has never been used much as the book mark ribbons are still folded back on themselves and show no signs of fraying. . Then follows a "Conclusion" "Fundamental and Complimentary Norms" "Table of Correspondence Between the 2002 and the Present Edition" and lastly an "Index to the Constitutions". G. A. was a professed teaching nun at Loretto Abbey in Toronto and a member of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Three page forward by John T. Langan SJ. From her short prefatory note: "These pages contain a series of detached essays written at various times for my pupils and with no thought of publication. It is at the suggestion of appreciative friends who intimated that these unworthy attempts to give verbal expression to the various apsects of our Immaculate Mother's loveliness may arouse an interest in the study of her virtues and win others to the service of her divine Son that they are now printed". The library markings are the ghost of a spine label the college name stamped on the title page and the tail margin of page 51 along with a small remnant of an attachment on the verso of the last page.
