Issued for use in the ecclesiastical jurisdictions of Quebec Montreal and Ottawa. Previous owner's notations present on both end papers front and back and the lower half of the last page a blank page has been removed. Some very minor foxing is present in the volume though 'tis not very much at all. The end paper hinges are torn while the cord binding is still very good and solid. The leather binding is rubbed and scuffed as is the marbled paper on the boards. A clear and removable archival cover has been fitted. The three main sections are entitled "Proprium Missarum de Tempore" "Commune Sanctorum" and "Ordinarium Missae". The musical notation is in the Gregorian format. Several indices at the back 11 pages in all.: "Index Generalis" "Index Alphabeticus omnium Festorum et Nominum Sanctorum hujus libri" "Index Missarum votivarum in hoc libro" "Ordinarium Missae" "Index Alphabeticus singularum Cantionum hujus libri". The externals have rubbed corners with mild bumping the leathers are gone and the spine is rubbed on the tips and the joints. Minor browning to margins of the text pages. Marbled paper over boards and marbled end papers. No title page present for the first section "Cantiques Francais / Chants Latin" while half title pages are present for the remaining two sections "Chants Latin" and "Cantiques Francais". The approbations where present are dated the first of May 1920. Publishing information on the verso of the last contents page at the back state "Imprimiere de Montligeon La Chapelle Montligeon Orne - 10464-10-20". I believe this book to have been rebound at some point shortly after being published and the original paper covers were not included. Part One has 65 pieces entitled "Cantiques Francais" and 20 pieces entitled "Chants Latin". Part Two has 57 pieces entitled "Chants Latin" Part Three has 73 pieces entitled Cantiques Francais. With regards condition the board corners are bumped and rubbed the spine has mild wear on the tips and the top spine panel is scuffed. Doublured paste down end papers with the leather borders of same being decorated with gilt dentillations and an interior hinge of leather. The covers are gilt ruled on the narrow edges head fore and tail edges. All text block edges are gilt with no sign of wear dulling or tarnish. One marker ribbon set into the headband. Illustrated with four full page black and white engravings one of which is the frontis and all with a tissue protector. This is the "Nouvelle edition augmentee des prieres durant la messe et des vepres du Dimanche". The leather exterior is rubbed on the joints the meeting of the spine and the covers. Remnants of a monastic label or bookplate of some sort on the front paste down end paper the front free end paper has a 3 cm closed tear in the tail edge Parisian bookseller's label on the verso of this end paper and a previous owner's name in pencil and dated 1904 is on the top of the half title page. The interior is very clean and the binding is very good. Aside from the end papers and the external wear to the leather this little book shows few signs of ever having been used. .
