The family records start with the marriage of Henry Harlow and Mary K. Partridge June 7 1866. Bound in full period red gilt morocco ornate gilt tooling full gilt edges marble endpapers. Binding slightly sprung a couple of short splits on hinge joints but boards firm some minor wear. Binding in very good condition. Internally one plate and one page of text nicked on bottom margin with loss but no loss of text or engraved area two pages of Testament stuck together along inner margin affecting text i.e. making the inner margin unreadable . Some light browing to plates. Pages and plates in good clean condition. A very nice copy in a very attractive period binding. Full Period Calf. 12mo - over 6�" - 7�" tall. Printed By and for J. 8vo., on India paper, with 9 coloured engraved maps on 6 and a double-page chronological chart; attractively bound in publisher's black roan portfolio with drop sides all round, covers framed and blocked in blind and blocked and lettered in gilt, back with five raised bands ruled in blind, second compartment lettered in gilt 'Bagster's Teacher's Bible', gilt edges, black endpapers, portfolio mildly scuffed and rubbed at extremities else a remarkably well-preserved, bright, clean copy. Bagster's Teacher's Bible is a facsimile reprint, with larger types, of the English Version of Bagster's Polyglot Bible first published in 1817 and which made Bagster's name. It corresponds page for page, and line for line, with the two well-known Pocket Editions. The text is that of the Authorized Version, printed in double column with the references in a third central column in Bagster style. In addition to the Old and New Testaments, this edition contains Cruden's Concordance, Chronology, Tables of Weights & Measures, Tabular Harmony, Comparative View of Quotations, and a set of maps engraved and coloured expressly for this edition. A particular feature is the set of Four Thousand Short Scripture Question with Answers, designed expressly for the use of teachers. The Teacher's Bible is an edition uncommon at best, and scarce indeed in this condition with wholly unrestored portfolio in unusually sound state. See Darlow & Moule 1081.

The Four Gospels KJV Peter Pauper Press limited edition signed by Alexander Mueller
Peter Pauper Press's exquisite oversize about 7.75 wide by 12 inches tall Four Gospels book containing the text of the King James Version of the four gospels illustrated with numerous woodcuts by Alexander Mueller. This edition was limited to 985 copies of which this is number 664 and it is signed by the illustrator. The book is magnificently produced as might be indicated by the list given at the end of the book of six patrons and nearly 400 subscribers including both individuals and organizations such as Dartmouth College Library The New York Public Library University of North Carolina Library University of Oregon Library and Massachusetts Bible Society. The book presents the gospels in a "reader's" format with large chapter headings but with paragraph symbols instead of numbered verses.<br /><br />As the photos show the slipcase is in good condition but is beginning to tear at the corners where the book is inserted and removed. It also has faint residue from a small price sticker to the upper right of the label. This isn't ordinarily noticeable visibly it is faint enough that it doesn't show up in the photos but can be felt slightly when running one's finger over the small spot there.<br /><br />The spine of the book shows considerable rubbing as is common for this book by this point in time but is still legible as can be seen from the photos. Inside the book appears unread. There are no markings or bookplates and the pages and binding feel almost new which is remarkable considering the age of this book. There is no copyright date given but the illustrator passed away in 1963.<br /><br />Aside from the slipcase and the rubbing on the spine this book appears as new.<br /><br /><i>About Silver Oak Books: I am a professor with a great love of reading and I have a large collection of academic and rare/fine print books.
