Pesah [i.e. Passover; Turkish: Hamursuz Bayrami] is a major Jewish holiday and one of the most widely celebrated Jewish holidays. Together with Shavuot and Sukkot, Passover was one of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals (Shalosh Regalim) during which the entire population of the kingdom of Judah made a pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem. Samaritans still make this pilgrimage to Mount Gerizim, but only men participate in public worship. Nissim [or Nisim] Behar was a Rabi. Behar, whose family moved from Bursa to Istanbul Hasköy when he was very young, was sent to the Alyans School here. The family moved from Hasköy to Kuledibi in 1923. Growing up in a religious family Nisim's mother was a family known for their religiousness in Silivri, and they even got the name "Sofu" when the surname law was enacted. Signed and inscribed by Krinizi to Güzin Alpan as 'To mrs. Güzin Alpan, with compliments'. Krinizi was an Israeli politician who served as the first mayor of Ramat Gan between 1926 and 1969. In 1926, the Mandatory Palestine government granted Ramat Gan the status of a local council, and Krinitzi became its first Head. Between 1926 and his death in 1969 he won twelve consecutive elections, and hs term in office of 43 years (24 years as the Head of the Council and another 19 years as mayor) is thought to be a world record. During his term in offices, he oversaw a succession of coalitions between right-wing and centrist parties. This book is an autobiography ofa dynamic creative personality. It spans sixty years packed with drama and with change. Flowing over with a wealth of personal experience in war, in peace, in political conflict and in the daily toil to build a city out of barren nothingness, Abraham Krinizi's reminiscences are a colourful, often thrilling backdrop of the Israel today. Very Good French First Edition of this scarce book on the Jewish Palestine from Balfour Declaration in 1917 to the White Paper in 1939, by Marc Jarblum (1887-1912) who was the Zionist leader, one of the founders of Po'alei Zion in Poland and also engaged in an underground activity, for which he was repeatedly jailed. The book includes Jarblum's views on the Jewish Palestine in the early 19th century between two important historical events on Palestine: The Balfour Declaration, was a public statement issued by the British government in 1917 during the First World War announcing support for the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine, then an Ottoman region with a small minority Jewish population. And the White Paper of 1939, was a policy paper issued by the British government, led by Neville Chamberlain, in response to the 1936-1939 Arab revolt in Palestine. After its formal approval in the House of Commons on 23 May 1939, it acted as the governing policy for Mandatory Palestine from 1939 to the 1948 British departure. In Ottoman script (Turkish with Arabic letters). 78 p. Hegira: 1305 = Gregorian: 1888. Serie: Kütüphane-i Ebüzziya, Aded: 66. First and only edition of this first and earliest antisemitic book in Turkish literature. "It was the first work that carried the traces of antisemitic discourse towards the Jewish people in the Ottomans" (Özkul, Çomak, Uzun). Ebüzziya Tevfik, who raised questions such as "why the Jews do not have a homeland", "why they are not moral" and "why they were exiled throughout history", and discussed these in the first two chapters of his book, is in search of a solution to the "Jewish question" in the final chapter despite taking such a harsh stance in advance. Tevfik was a journalist and writer who started in the path of journalism after having worked as a civil servant for a brief time. He published the newspapers Ibret, Hadika, and Sirac (1873) (1873) with Namik Kemal. Ebüzziya Tevfik, who was a member of the Young Ottoman Association, was exiled to Rhodes together with Ahmet Mithat Efendi after the incidents that arose following Namik Kemal's 'Vatan Yahut Silistre' (Country or Boatswain's Pipe) play in 1873. He returned to Istanbul after the death of Sultan Abdülaziz. He did research in the area of publishing in Vienna where he lived during the rule of Abdülhamid. He established the Ebüzziya Publishing House after his return to Turkey and published the books of the famous writers of the time such as Namik Kemal, Ziya Pasa, Sinasi, Ahmet Rasim, Recaizade Ekrem, and Muallim Naci. He published 'Mecmua-i Ebuzziya' (1880). He was exiled to Konya in 1890 by the Abdülhamit administration on the grounds that he wasn't suitable for civil service. He was elected as Antalya parliamentary deputy (1908) to the parliament that was formed on the announcement of the Second Constitutional Monarchy. Ebüzziya Tevfik, who prepared compilations and translations on anthologies, theater plays, and memoirs, is known more for his contributions to publishing and as a famous editor of the time than as a writer.
