In tutte le storie di Muhammad, e nello stesso Corano, si dice che il Profeta una notte fu svegliato dall'angelo Gabriele e accompagnato in un viaggio dalla Mecca a Gerusalemme e da lì nei sette cieli. Quella che presentiamo in questo volume è una versione medievale più tarda di altre, ma ha avuto e ha una straordinaria diffusione. Tutt'oggi se ne contano numerose edizioni in tutti i paesi arabi ed è una lettura molto popolare. Sui rapporti fra il viaggio di Muhammad nell'aldilà e la "Commedia" di Dante sono stati scritti molti libri. Dante potrebbe avere avuto a che fare con il "Libro della scala", tradotto in latino, ma è difficile impostare un preciso discorso di fonti. E in ogni caso interessante, per la nostra cultura fondata su Dante, vedere come lo stesso tema del viaggio oltremondano venga sviluppato nel mondo islamico. Per vedere le analogie ma anche le differenze.

A cura di Pellò S. Torino, 2019; ril., pp. LX-401. (Nuova Universale Einaudi). Per la prima volta tradotta in italiano, sia pure parzialmente, un'opera fondamentale della letteratura persiana. Composta nel XIII secolo, raccoglie storie agiografiche e profane, narrazioni realistiche, storiche, favolistiche, apologhi morali. I racconti (più di duemila nell'opera completa) sono rielaborati da tradizioni precedenti, scritte e orali, e suddivisi per temi. L'autore, 'Awfi, era un letterato passato per diverse corti: viaggiò attraverso l'Iran, l'Asia centrale e il subcontinente indiano (dove la lingua persiana deteneva un grande prestigio), sempre impegnato a reperire e a leggere le opere più disparate nelle grandi biblioteche centrasiatiche, che sarebbero poi in parte andate distrutte con l'invasione mongola. L'opera di 'Awfi ha dunque permesso di conservare e tramandare («Gemme della memoria») un ricchissimo patrimonio di cultura persiana, araba, turca e indiana, un mondo multietnico geograficamente estesissimo e affascinante. Grazie allo sguardo antropologico di 'Awfi, e al suo gusto del narrare, quel mondo di califfi e profeti, di guerrieri e di imam, di ancelle e di mercanti ci sembra ancora oggi più che mai avvincente

ISBN: 8845916413 L'edizione filologica e rigorosa di una delle opere piu' alte della mistica ebraica, che racconta il procedere di un'esperienza estatica. Una preziosa porta che introduce a tutta la storia della Cabbala.Per molti lettori, il libro attraverso il quale si sono avvicinati alla mistica ebraica è il trattato di Scholem "Le grandi correnti della mistica ebraica". E lì avranno trovato, nel capitolo sul cabbalista 'Abulafia, la citazione di un testo che racconta il procedere di un'esperienza estatica. Quel testo, che sembra condensare in sé le peculiarità della speculazione cabalisitca, era lo "Sa'are Sedeq. Le porte della giustizia", di cui, fino ad oggi, mancava un'edizione filologica ed era altamente incerta l'attribuzione. Oggi Moshe Idel, che ha occupato il posto di Scholem, presenta questa prima edizione corredata da un vasto commento, proponendone l'attribuzione a un discepolo di 'Abulafia, Rabbi Natan ben Sa'adyah Har'ar.
