JÜRGEN GOTTSCHLICH, (1954-).
Incil avcisi: Istanbul'dan Misir'a kutsal kitabin pesinde. Inceleme. [= Der Bibeljager: Die abenteuerliche Suche nach der urfassung des Neuen Testaments]. Translated into Turkish by Neylan Eryar.
New Turkish Paperback. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 14 cm). In Turkish. 1 map, 238 p., b/w ills. Incil avcisi: Istanbul'dan Misir'a kutsal kitabin pesinde. Inceleme. [= Der Bibeljager: Die abenteuerliche Suche nach der urfassung des Neuen Testaments]. Translated into Turkish by Neylan Eryar.

Kaempfer, Engelbert
Exotic Attractions in Persia 1684-1688: Travels and Observations
Washington D.C.: Mage Publishers 2018. First Edition Thus . Hardcover. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. First edition thus; originally published in 1712 in Latin. Printed and manufactured in the USA. Translated and annotated by Willem Floor and Colette Ouahes. 11.5 x 9 inches. Bound in glossy paper-covered hardboards with white black and purple lettering. Unbumped spine head and tail and with sharp corners. Immensely clean binding. Text block firmly bound in and very tight. With xvi and 501 numbered pages all of matte stock. With 58 B&W figures throughout including many some that are full-page. A very clean interior. Previous owner name and date in small neat ink hand to top of a front FEP. Appears very gently read. No dust jacket; as issued A Very Good Plus copy. 3 lbs. 5 oz. The present volume is translated directly from the Latin. The previous German translations are not considered very reliable at least not faithful to the spirit of the original text. And the later Farsi translation was based on a German translation rather than the original Latin. Hence the perceived need for this Latin to English translation. Engelbert Kaempfer 1651-1716 was from Leppe Germany. He was a German naturalist physician explorer and writer known for his tour of Russia Persia India Southeast Asia and Japan between 1683 and 1693. In 1681 Kaempfer visited Uppsala in Sweden where he was offered inducements to settle. His desire for foreign travel led him to become secretary to the second embassy of the Swedish ambassador Ludvig Fabritius whom Charles XI sent through Russia to Persia in 1683. Kaempfer's travelogue of this embassy was later published. He reached Persia by way of Moscow Kazan and Astrakhan landing at Nizabad "in Shirvan" now in Azerbaijan after a voyage in the Caspian Sea. From Shemakha in Shirvan he made an expedition to the Baku peninsula being perhaps the first modern scientist to visit the "fields of eternal fire" around Baku. In 1684 Kaempfer reached Isfahan then the Persian capital.

Mage Publishers hardcover

Philadelphia: Childs & Peterson 1856. Hardcover. Complete 2-volume set. 8vo. Blind-embossed green cloth. Frontispieces engraved title pages extensive illustrations "Illustrated by Upwards of Three Hundred Engravings from Sketches by the Author" two foldout maps. Good plus. Bindings a bit rough and edgeworn corners bumped some chipping at heads and tails of spines sporadic foxing but tight and overall a quite decent set. First edition of this famed failed journey by the American explorer and physician 1820-57 which searched the Arctic for the English explorer 1786-1847 who died searching for the Northwest Passage -- but a rousing success in another sense for they explored further and longer than previous Arctic expeditions and survived to tell the tale despite suffering horrific hardships.
