Isabella Dusi
Bel Vino
Pocket Books USA 2004. Medium Trade Paperback. Good. Medium Trade Paperback. 514 pages. PUBLISHING DETAILS: Pocket Books USA 2004. CONDITION: This book is in good condition. More specifically: Covers have light creasing. Edges of covers have superficial edgewear and corners are moderately bumped. Spine is uncreased. . Pages are reasonably tanned and lightly creased. Name crossed out and small scribble on inside of front cover. ABOUT THIS BOOK: Isobel and Lou moved to Montalcino and became Isabella and Luigi ten years ago and they have now been embraced by the locals and immersed in their antiquated customs and age-old feuds. In BEL VINO Isabella takes the reader on a winding journey to discover the true aristocratic orgins of the world-renowned wine Brunello di Montalcino on whose vintage the fortunes of many of the Montalcinesi depend. Taking us through the seasons of the wine harvest Dusi weaves a path that brings in the local white-hooded monks who have lived in the Abbey of Sant' Antimo since at least 814; the last remaining local shoemaker; the harvesting of mushrooms olives and truffles; an archery contest with a local village at which passions run high; and the fight to save a 1000-year-old church with no foundations. As an insider Dusi is able to portray Tuscan life with all its idyllic charms whilst also giving an intriguing insight into the daily workings of the ancient village of Montalcino. Isabella Dusi
Vanilla Beans & Brodo : Real Life In The Hills Of Tuscany
Pocket Books USA 2002. Medium Trade Paperback. Very Good. Medium Trade Paperback. 456 pages. PUBLISHING DETAILS: Pocket Books USA 2002. CONDITION: This book is in very good condition. More specifically: Covers have no creasing. Corners of covers are lightly bumped. Spine is uncreased. . Pages are lightly tanned. ABOUT THIS BOOK: Foreign writers living in Italy frequently treat the local people as an exotic species to provide amusing stories for their readers. Sipping cappuccino and supping pasta rarely do they perceive what is going on around them nor understand the complexity of life for today's Italians. Isabella Dusi came from Australia to settle in Montalcino a Tuscan mountain eyrie famous for its wine. Her acceptance into this close-knit community was a hard-won thing. This text is her account of life there offering a rare insight into the anxiety joy fun and pressure of inhabiting this medieval village. It also tells of the village's bloody history which has left its mark on the character traits of the Montalcinese. In this evocative story of the rivalry between village neighbourhoods of football fever and festival pageantry Isabella Dusi destroys the myth that Tuscan villages are tranquil places and instead reveals a life infinitely rich and full of dramas. This moving and often humorous journey changes the cliched image of Tuscany and brings real understanding of the fierce passion of today's Tuscans for their ancient village their fertile land and their life in Montalcino.
