The ideas of Thomas Burnet (about 1635-1715), a very controversial figure in Anglican England, attracted Rome?s attention, as shown in the appendix. The comparison between Burnet?s writings, considered in connection with the religious controversies in England and Europe, and the objections raised by ecclesiastical censors shows what a deep abyss separated Northern European protestant countries not only from the Church?s rigid hierarchy but also from Italian enlightened Catholics like Lodovico Antonio Muratori. 283 gr. x-116 p.
